Am I on the right track for top tiers?

<p>I'm currently a Sophomore, and I was wondering I am on the right track for some of the colleges that I really like. They are on the bottom of the page.</p>

<p>GPA:
Currently a 4.0 UW? My school only does weighed, but in all my classes I have at least a 93%. I am probably in the top 5% of about 110 students. I am taking the most rigorous course load, with 2 AP classes (1 is a semester AP course), and 5 Pre-AP/Honors classes. So 7 out of my 8 classes are AP/Pre-Ap/Honors classes.</p>

<p>SAT:
Yet to take, but the summer after my Freshman year I've been scoring 2290-2330 on CollegeBoard practice tests. I will aim for a 2350+. </p>

<p>Teacher recommendations:
Will be excellent. I have an amazing relationship with a teacher who has been known to give out stellar recommendation letters in the past. And I know more teachers that really like me. </p>

<p>ECs:</p>

<p>(Outside of School)
-Starting a non profit (will register as a 501(c)(3)) aimed to alter the current state education system with a free online resource. I raise money to buy computers so that impoverished schools can use this online tool.
-Starting another non profit (will register as a 501(c)(3)) aimed to alleviate the poverty in my city
-Will be a board member for a non profit that provides a shelter for raped girls in an Asian country
-I might volunteer for a global non profit that aims to improve medical utilities worldwide and combat diseases. It has a branch in three states, and there is one here in my state
-I am creating two apps that have a philanthropic purpose. One is two spread awareness about global issues and another is charity related
-I tutor a financially disadvantaged 2nd grader
-I play Club soccer, which is extremely time consuming
-Volunteer at my local library </p>

<p>-I have an internship at a research lab for Triple Negative Breast Cancer and various brain tumors
-Will aim to get published as an author
-Attended a summer camp on medicine at a top 20 university
-Annual Breast Cancer marathon volunteer
-Cancer non profit volunteer
-(I will probably have 400-500 hours of volunteering overall) </p>

<p>(In-school ECs)
-School soccer (also very time consuming)
-Quiz Bowl Captain
-President for a club that fights for human rights across the world
-Trying to create and be president of Pre-med club
-Trying to create and be president another club
-Science and Engineering club president
-Model UN Vice President or President
-Chair for Model UN for two conferences </p>

<p>Awards:
-Trying to become AP Scholar with Distinction
-Trying for NMSF
-Trying for Intel
-Have a few local science fair awards
-National History Day State participant
-Spanish National Exam Honorable Mention
-Some Model UN awards at universities
-Trying for AIME</p>

<p>Hooks:
-Low income, living with a single parent a younger sibling
-Can fluently speak 3 languages and I am learning a 4th, Spanish </p>

<p>Anti-Hooks: Asian :/</p>

<p>Prospective major: Pre-med so that I can major in Biology so that I can become a Neurologist </p>

<p>So please chance me for the following colleges: (This is not the final list, just the ones that I am somewhat interested in. The list will most definitely be modified in the future with less reaches and more matches/safeties) </p>

<p>"The Great Almighty" Harvard
"The Equally Almighty" Stanford
Columbia
Cornell
UChicago
Duke
UPenn
Johns Hopkins
Georgetown
Vanderbilt
WUSTL </p>

<p>If anyone has any suggestions for any other colleges, that would be great. </p>

<p>I will try to chance back if you put a link.</p>

<p>Incredible stats!</p>

<p>Harvard: Reach. (Harvard is always a crapshoot)
Stanford: Low reach.
Columbia: High match/low reach.
Cornell: High match.
UChicago: Low reach.
Duke: High match/low reach.
UPenn: Low reach.
Johns Hopkins: Match/high match.
Georgetown: Match.
Vanderbilt: Match.
WUSTL: Match.</p>

<p>Considered Yale/Princeton?</p>

<p>It’s hard to say. There are a lot of things on your list that are ‘trying to…’ and ‘will probably.’ Chances are you won’t be doing all of these things by the end of high school. You should actually <em>do</em> instead of just speculating.</p>

<p>^True, but most of the things, except for the awards, I have already started. I have also discussed the topic of starting those two clubs, and the principal said that he would allow for it. The global non profit volunteering too is a huge possibility, since I called and asked them and they said that I’ll definitely be able to.</p>

<p>Sorry I decided to use another account</p>

<p>Every school you listed is a reach for most everyone, more so for the Ivies. I don’t think that being a first generation college student is a true hook, in the real sense of the word, but it may help. Your EC seem very focused and in depth. Getting SAT scores on practice tests like you’ve achieved is one thing, and getting them on a real test is something different, so there’s no way to really know where you stand unless you take the SAT or ACT.</p>

<p>As with schools of this caliber, your essays and LOR will mean a lot, but admissions to these schools is variable. If you’d like more info onWUSTL, where my son just started, feel free to contact me.</p>

<p>completely useless thread. Post something when you have something solid and not hypthetical</p>

<p>I think that some of it may actually hurt you. First off, I agree with previous posters: don’t post speculation. Post solid facts. Secondly, I’m sorry, but starting 2 clubs and 2 charities? This may actually hurt you, as colleges can clearly see that you’re doing it just for college. You have solid stats, but you’re overdoing it, which may hurt you.</p>

<p>I agree with bbman888. While starting so many clubs is a great, it is looked upon as bad, because colleges wonder how could this person possibly have started this many clubs and participate in this many things? It gives the impression that you’re not too involved with anything you do, which can definitely hurt you.</p>
