Am I on the right track to Dartmouth?

Hi

I am a freshman, and I am very interested in Dartmouth. To give you some more info to work off of, here...

Freshman year:

Advanced English (honors not avail) - A
Advanced English (honors not avail) - A
Honors Geometry - B+ (IK IK IT SUCKS)
Honors Bio- A
French 3 (honors not available for French studies who came from my middle school) - A+
Italian 1 (skipping to level 3 next yr)- A

For next year, I am scheduled in...

Honors English
AP US history
Honors Algebra 2
Honors Chem
Honors French 4
Italian 3
Student leadership (elective)

As far as extra curriculars, I volunteer at the local museum and I am a junior educator. I also study Arabic. I am a Muslim, but I converted by my own choice. I am very passionate about womens rights particularly in the Middle east (I was inspired after reading The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, and I am searching for an organization in relation to this to join. I am a member of the Model UN club, and I plan on staying all through HS. I pitch/play softball in a travel league outside of school. (I quit the school team- it was crazily demanding and none of the coached understood the importance of my academics bc most of the team is...different...)

My GPA (weighted) this is about a 4.2 ish...I think this is due to the lack of honors available to freshmen and the issue of Spanish students being able to take honors before French students (I have no idea why...we study the different languages for the same amount of time ,but when entering HS, Spanish students have an honors class available to them, but French students dont.) So I think my GPA is skewed this year. My unweighted GPA sucks bc of my B+ in Geom, so its like a 3.7 (AH IK)

I won an award from the world language department, and I tutor kids in foreign language.

So, basically I am wondering if I am on the right track and what else I can do to improve my chances. I know it is way too soon to tell if I will get in, I am more concerned as to if I am going in the right direction. Any advice would mean the world to me!

Thanks!

of course you’re on the right track. also, a 3.7 GPA isn’t so bad! so don’t freak out over it. I have the same aspirations to attend dartmouth and my freshman year GPA was a 3.8. you’re doing very well, and I’d suggest possible just taking “one” foreign language class for four straight years. Top tier schools like to see that you have spent four years learning one language and know it well versus dedicating two years to say, Spanish, and another two to French because you just have a mix up of diff. languages and don’t know either of them, very well; at least in contrast to if you dedicated four years to just one. Just keep going with school, work hard, and get involved in extracurriculars that interest you, so you can show the world and make a diff. in the community/world via your interests. they like to see that. btw, if you’re wondering about the legitimacy of my advice, I got some of it from Harvard’s website, from my past research. Good luck! :)

well i wasnt going to quit any of my languages. i was going to study all of them at the same time b/c it comes pretty easily to me.

but thanks!

Sounds like you’re definitely on track! Now focus on extracurriculars and keeping your grades up. Instead of searching for an organization to join that supports women’s rights, you could always start your own. Starting clubs at my high school was pretty easy, if you put in the effort to get members. Colleges love seeing something like that, because it shows both compassion and initiative. Our current president at Dartmouth helped found Partners in Health.

Don’t mind metaphy6. He’s just mad because he didn’t realize that enrolling at Dartmouth meant getting perma-trolled by fat bros who know more about Husserl than he ever will.
