Am I on the right track to get into a university?? (Freshman)

Hi everyone,

I'm a freshman in high school currently and as the year is ending I'm starting to feel hopeless about my entire future basically. I took the most rigorous classes my school even offers for freshman and PE/Health is a requirement.

By the way my second semester grades aren't set in stone because the year hasn't ended but i'm sure that is what they will be.

Biology A-/A
Honors Freshman English A-/A
Algebra 1 C/B
PE/Health A/A
German 1 B/B
AP World History B/A (just took the exam, i'm pretty hopeful about my score)

My first semester GPA is 3.233. My school doesn't weight grades.... :(

I know my EC's are weak. There is nothing at my school. Literally. I did the best I could.

FBLA
- 2nd, 5th, and 5th at regional competition
- 3rd at state
- going to nationals this june

Science Olympiad
-2nd at regional competition
-5th at state

German Club member
Award for Outstanding Performance in Health (lol)

A fairly important thing I should mention is that I'm studying abroad my entire sophomore year in Taiwan. I got accepted into the program and everything. From the Mandarin I learn there I'm going to continue to take lessons (it's not offered at my school) so I can get better because I will have learned the foundations. I'm planning on self studying AP Psychology and AP European History while I'm in Taiwan. They said I could take the tests there and it would be fine.

I'm planning on running for state office for FBLA my senior year, just continuing Science Olympiad (my team has hopeful predictions for nationals), and getting an office in German club my junior and senior year. For community service, when I get back from studying abroad I'm going to start my community service and try to get about 250-300 hours. Also I'm getting a job at Boys and Girls Club. I don't know if this counts but I taught myself Arabic. I would be considered fairly fluent and I'm only getting better. I'm going to take as many AP classes (except the math ones) that are offered at my school and self study for as many as I can.

I want to study International Business and a language. I hope that knowing Arabic, Mandarin, and German are look at least a little bit good because my family only speaks English.

I know you can't predict much because I'm only a freshman and I don't have SAT/ACT scores or anything, I just want to know if I'm on the right track. I know I won't be able to get into any Ivies or anything like that. My grades aren't good and my EC's are weak, compared to everyone on this website basically, but I'm looking at schools like American University, Catholic University of America, University of Michigan Anne-Arbor, University of Georgia, etc.

Sorry this is redundant and long. I'm getting ready to leave the country and school is ending and I just feel pretty hopeless, especially seeing everyone on here and how amazing you all are academically!! I just want to know if I'm doing okay for freshman year, and if studying abroad in Taiwan will help me stand out (maybe??) and stuff.

Thank you for reading all this I appreciate it <3

.

Most colleges will barely glance at freshman year, so don’t worry. At least you have an upward trend, though (second semester = better than 1st). A B/B+ average will get you into many colleges. If you want top tier, you do wanna improve, though. You still have two more years. And those EC’s are outstanding for a freshman! However, if there’s an activity you care about which isn’t offered at your school, you should try finding it outside of school. Remember to only do EC’s that you enjoy/will help you grow as a person. Colleges prefer a few EC’s you’re passionate about rather than a long list of not-so-meaningful activities. Hope this helps. :)

get your math up if you want to study business
