Am I on Track?

I’m a junior in highschool. I live in NJ, have a GPA of 3.45 (Unweighted) and 3.64 (Weighted). I haven’t taken the SATs yet, and am waiting on my PSAT scores. I was in honors history the past two years, am in AP now, and am planning on taking 3 AP history courses as a senior next year, and maybe honors English. (I obviously want to major in some form of history or politics, which is why im so interested in American). I slacked off last year, but my grades are already rising, and will continue to do so this/next year. I’m going to be the President of the Amnesty International club for my second year next year, and I founded and am VP of the vegetarian club. I might also create a political club this year, and will be the president of that. (So, as you can see, im pretty passionate about politics in my ECs)

So, am I on track for American as a Junior? Are there any other colleges I should look at? I know its pretty hard to get into, so I’m pretty worried about my lack of APs. Does American want a student who is passionate about something (me and history/politics) or an all around honors student (NHS material)?

Your GPA is a tad low, but try to get a good SAT score (maybe 1800) and take a few more AP classes and you should be good.

Yea, my GPA will be rising to at least 3.7 + after this year. As for ap’s, Im taking at least 3 next year, and possibly 4.

Don’t worry about the APs - the SAT is much, much more important - do whatever you can to prepare.

I’d still look into AP’s they can help once you get accepted - if you get a good grade
some of my friends in college entered as sophomores b/c of their AP’s

PSAT results= 173
59 reading, 59 writing, 55 math. That’s definitely subject to go up.

Yes, you should be able to increase your SATs - concentrate the most on verbal and math- there is lots of advice on college confidential on how to increase your SAT score

To be honest PSAT’s don’t mean as much as people like to think they do. I did very poorly on my PSAT’s and it projected me getting about a 1500 on my SAT’s and I got a 2010 so don’t get you’re hopes down based solely on that.
