Am I Princeton Material?

Hi im a junior in high school and im curious to know if im good enough to get into princeton

I have a 101.5 gpa, a 2250 sat score (700 reading, 800 math, 750 writing), am in nhs and spanish nhs, am an emt and am on the rescue squad, have been an umpire for 3 years and was awarded umpire of the year, worked at applebees over the summer, am the leader, guitarist, and singer of my band, did jv cross country and jv track for 1 year, have been in my churchs band for 2 years, volunteer for 60 hours helping with autistic kids over the summer, am an executive officer in 3 clubs and a member of debate, go around to schools telling kids not to do drugs, volunteer at the hospital, am a tutor for pay as well as a volunteer, and am starting my own charity where i take old computers, revamp them, donate them to underprivileged schools, and show the kids at the schools how i did this to promote computer technology

i know im a crazy overachiever please dont bother telling me that

oh and just a little more background i take all ap/honors courses available, so far have gotten a 780 on sat 2 math level 2, skipped a grade in math, and have done various community service activities

fyi: sorry i dont mean to brag here, im just curious to know what my chances are and how i can improve

1 - you are not a crazy overachiever
2 - nothing stands out

Maybe, maybe not. You are in the ballpark, but so are 10 000+ other applicants. You need something to stand out to give you a decent shot.

IMHO

I hate to burst your bubble, but nothing about you stands out, as the previous poster pointed out.

2250? Subpar at best, by CC standards.

Laundry list of ECs? Nothing great.

780 on sat 2 math level 2? This is actually not good… Math II has an incredibly generous curve. 7% of people who take it get 800s.

Skipped a grade in math? Oh please…

Tone down the arrogance. What you can do to improve is to pick something and make it stand out. What are you passionate about?

Welcome to CC & Good luck.

I think Idio is being a little negative, but he’s right about the chances. You are, more or less, “Princeton Material”- but most applicants to Princeton are as well. You have a shot, but people with better resumes have been rejected, and people with worse resumes have been accepted. It’s a long shot for anyone without connections, so good luck.

Something does stand out to me by the way- the computer charity. Very interesting.

How can I be being a little negative yet be right about the chances? I am being realistic…

Arreyn summed up my points perfectly. Computer charity is good but when I say stand out I mean STAND OUT. My typical examples are published research or literature, national sport or national music.

The kid’s got the classic Princeton attitude: thinks of himself as some demi-godly overachiever, while of course “subtly” hiding his hubris by claiming he doesn’t want to brag; but in reality is a middle of the road character without anything too special to share with the world.

The Princeton arrogance and self-delusion - you’ve got it, kid. And since attitude is everything, I wholeheartedly think that you are in fact Princeton material.

@newest newb: ouch, must you be critical like that? No need for such statements ):
I don’t think its right to generalize the whole Princeton student body as “arrogance and self-delusion”

@emoy18: If you portray yourself well, like you truly have a passion in what you do, you have a chance. It’s hard to state that you have a good chance, since it is true that nothing totally stands out. But, you definitely do have a lot of academic background and extracurrics happening.

^^ Newest newb is at Princeton so if anyone can, he can. And just look at his posts; the absolute pinnacle of arrogance and self delusion.

Usually they are great, as is this one.

Lol, jsungoh - how hypocritical. If I remember correctly you’re the one that claimed (rather rudely, in fact) that I didn’t know what “elitist” meant. I blasted your argument to smithereens and you never replied to the thread again.

By the way - Idiosyncra3y, were you on Yale Bulldog Chat this morning? Saw someone from SA but wasn’t sure if was you!

I hate being the one **** South African there… Everyone knows who I am! Yeah was probably me. Send me a message sometime so that I at least know who you are.

Nahhh there’s another person as well that “hasn’t published a profile yet” lol. Any idea who that is?

Anyway, sent you a message saying hi… hope you’ll be at BDD!

ok first of all, newest newb you can suck my balls you arrogant prick
the only reason that i mentioned that im a crazy overachiever is because any time i mention these credentials to people thats exactly the response i get, which im not looking for
i just wanted some constructive criticism, which i was glad to hear from most of the comments
if anyone has any helpful suggestions for activities i can do id appreciate it

Your activities seem to be a laundry list, which was mentioned before. To be honest, I’d cut off over half the activities and spend the extra time generated into a few of your others.

Taking this into perspective:

A person at my school only did math and qualified for USAMO, MOP, etcetc. Needless to say, he was accepted everywhere (including Princeton). I believe his application looked pretty empty in comparison to yours.

Another person, with activities not unlike yours, applied to all the ivies and was accepted by only one or two. A person like you is truly affected by the (single/low double digit)% acceptance rate. You have nothing that stands out (mentioned before already). You might be the best in your school, but that means nothing when there are like 15,000+ others that are like you, if not better.

Also mentioned before, follow your passion(s). Don’t do things for the sake of putting it on your resume/application. Do it because you truly enjoy it, and I guarantee you you’ll be accepted by whatever college you truly belong to, as seen by the person who followed his passion in math.

newest newb actually gave you a response to the proposed question. Yes, the way you carried yourself and described yourself throughout your initial post permeated the Princeton attitude. The defensive nature with which you responded to his comment doesn’t do anything to refute the inquiry about your arrogance and hubris either. Get over it. Most of the kids applying are going to have that same attitude (including me often times) so what makes your arrogance more tenable than the other 30000 kids applying? The response to that is very little, as everyone else already stated.

I love “tenable”

Able to be tenned.

This thread has the vocab for Princeton too. Tenable, hoooobris, permeated (I think you meant oozed, but who cares).

Good fun.

newest newb is a bamf

dont hate.

I love tenable as well.

“able to be maintained or defended against attack and objection”

emoy18 you never tell someone to **** your *****. If you speak like that, no one will give you advices…

^^ You lie! It is able to be tenned I tell you! :)
