Am I screwed for financial aid??

I forgot to add Duke to my CSS profile. Is there any way I can right this? I’m adding Duke today, but will I likely not receive much aid? I’m pretty bummed over this mistake. ):

Have you called the financial aid office? They are extremely busy this time of year trying to hammer out financial packages so a call is your quickest bet for clear directions.

It is my impression that there are deadlines and then there are “soft deadlines” (there are always people who still have missing documents that Duke continues to request and accept). Hopefully if you call, they just tell you to get your stuff in ASAP. Again, this is just my impression and it may be the case that they will say nope, sorry, you missed the deadline, but fingers crossed that will not be the case.

Duke is also supposed to be meet 100% need, which means your package should make it POSSIBLE for you to attend. Now, POSSIBLE is the key word here because it is not equal to COMFORTABLE. You can get a finaid package that is full of loans, making it possible to attend but extremely painful to swallow. On the flip side, it’s also possible to get a package with grants and minimal loans.

Your aid eligibility, or how much you could get, won’t change because of timeline (given that they say yes, it’s fine, go ahead and send in your stuff). However, the pool of resources does dwindle. The desirable money - grants, work study, subsidized loans - will most likely have been distributed elsewhere.

I can’t tell you how much aid you’ll receive because that’s entirely based on your family’s financial situation. Given that Duke pledges to meet 100% need, you’ll most likely get aid, but what the breakdown of that aid looks like might be negatively impacted by how far back you are in the queue.

I’m sorry I couldn’t be of much more help. Give them a call. My personal experience with calling them in the past has always been good and they’ve been helpful. Good luck!

@mecsquared , I guess it doesn’t matter anymore since I got rejected  thank you for the help.
