So I was accepted Duke early decision. I indicated when I sent in my application I did not need financial aid, but now it would help. So I told the financial aid this a few days ago and submitted my CSS profile. The applicant website does now say they have received the CSS profile. However, I just sent in my W2 forms and Federal Tax Returns today and found out the financial aid office is on winter break until January 2nd. When do you think I will get an estimate of my financial aid?

I was also wondering if maybe I should send the documents to the undergraduate admissions office? Or are they not involved with any of that stuff? Help please!

anyone? please

Bump bump bumpp

I was in your same position last year. As far as my experience went, Duke’s financial aid calculator will give you a reasonably precise estimate of what you’ll receive. In fact, the estimation that the calc gave me was actually a few thousand dollars lower than what I got in March.

Zedong, I’m wondering when I will receive my financial aid award since I’m an ED admit?

It doesn’t take all that long to calculate an award and email it to you. I had to update a few things the summer before freshmen year and the FA office had a new award package in my inbox within a week. I think you should just sit tight and wait until after the New Years since there’s nothing you can do anyway, you’ve already committed to attend by being accepted ED after all.

And don’t send anything to admissions, they don’t handle thing stuff. My guess is unless you are an international student who said no to FA on your application, it wouldn’t really matter to them.

@SBR: Yeah I don’t think they really cared. I’m domestic and when I told them I wanted to apply for financial aid a few days ago, they promptly changed my student portal so it had a financial aid to do list. I’m just a little concerned cause the deadline to confirm enrollment is on January 5th, and they won’t be back until the 2nd. I emailed my W2 forms and federal tax returns literally 20 minutes after they went on winter break yesterday ugh dumb me.

I don’t know what the process is like for ED now but AFAIK student can withdraw even after a confirmation to matriculate. Obviously in the case of ED, since you made a commitment to attend you’d need to go through an appeals process and it’s much harder and more complicated but I wouldn’t worry too much about that Jan 5th deadline. Don’t ignore it but it’s not an eternal binding commitment to sacrifice your unborn children or anything.

I agree; deadlines seem to be soft. Duke will do what it can to get you to attend. OTOH, their net price calculator should tell you what to expect; financial aid goes to those who need it. Expect help if it shows you need aid.

I got my official FA package during March, iirc.
