Am i screwed?

I am currently a junior. I was wondering if i have a chance at getting into schools
like Umich, NYU, UCLA,and other schools.

I messed my sophomore year in 2 classes. and My gpa wasn't a 3.5 in my freshman year and sophomore year( it was close to that).
Can i still get into those colleges if i do well this year(junor year). I know SAT's are important so I am currently studying for that. Does EC play a big role too?

Thank you
sorry this is my first post :(

Look at the Common Data Set for each of these schools. It will show you the GPA, test scores and class rank for those admitted by percentile. It’s a good way to access ‘reach, match and safety’ assuming the schools you are applying to admit 25% or more of their applicants. (For the really selective schools, being in the top 25%ile still makes it a reach.)

ECs play a somewhat less critical role at the big (10,000+ students) schools where they can be reasonably sure they will have enough musicians, artists, athletes, etc…in every class. That doesn’t mean you don’t need any ECs, or that impressive ones won’t matter - just that they aren’t quite as critical as they are to small schools that have to ‘build a class.’

If you were applying to LACs (liberal art colleges) and smaller universities, that tend to be less ‘numbers driven’ in their admissions process, you would probably find that your freshman grades are somewhat discounted, especially if you are male. At large schools, the numbers are relied upon somewhat more heavily.

Of course, if there is a ‘lesson learned’ from your sophomore year experience that you can talk about, with improved grades in junior and senior year, that could help as well.

are you interesting?
