Am I the only one who hates being defeated (academically)?

I know the whole distinction between the #1 and the #2 is supposed to be minimal, but I am not looking forward to getting my report card next week and having confirmation (i was number 1 but then i dropped) I really shouldnt care that much....our gpa's are only .04 apart...but i kind of liked the attn i got for the past few months..it made me feel special. now, i m just second best, which sucks.

well, i'm only upset if 1) i didn't do my best 2) the other person cheated

Wow, perhaps this is why my school doesn't rank 1, 2, 3 etc. If you have a 4.0+, you're ranked #1.

Others deserve a chance to feel special too.

no, you're not the only one; this is CC after all! While I'm not the best student ever, I became slightly upset after realizing that, even after getting straight A's all of Senior year with 2 AP classes, my rank did not go up at all. I was #11 all year instead of #10. :( To be ranked in the top 10 students (out of 400) was one of my academic goals of senior year. Hahaha

Then when graduating with honors, I got magna cum laude on my diploma instead of summa cum laude (3.98 gpa instead of 4.01+). If I got summa cum laude, I would've been able to sit at the front of graduation and get my diploma first. My final transcript shows summa cum laude because my GPA went up after last semester, but not my diploma :( lol :D

I'm totally with you. Everyone hates the other person who I'm in competition with for number 1, so I'm going to feel really bad if he wins. I am freakishly mad at myself for getting a B in calc this semester (first one ever in my life), and possibly english if things go badly.

Kare Kano.

lol i feel the same way, but i'm stuck at number 3. to become number one i'd have to take like 7-8 college classes or ap colleges over the summer. to keep my number 3 spot i need to take 2 ap classes online over the summer. I hate super competitive schools lol

yeah me too. im not totally into ranking, especially since im at # 43 and i have a 3.9. not that bad though, im in the top 5% of my class (of 896). But yeah, i hate it when other people rub it in if they get a better grade or score or something.

lol, i know what u mean. Kare Kano--that manga--the whole same thing between boy and girl for class rank.

^ Hahaha, I had a feeling someone would catch on.

(:

How do you guys balance academia and your social life?

^ You don't study. And, then you see your friends instead.

totally sucks for me im ranked 143 out of 649 and i have a 5.16 gpa on a 5 point scale

Which obviously leads to random comma placement.
:)

learning for the sake of learning

study buddies! We have this restaurant, Macaroni Grill, that lets us write on the tablecloth. I heard that a group of people go there to eat and study for US History/ World History.

I don't feel too academically inclined, but sometimes I study because something interests me or my grades are too low.

You should be upset that you have yet to get any as$.

I hate to be defeated academically, but I don't worry about it! I'm quite competitive in real life, in every area, so that's not limited to school. I used to think grades are what make people intelligent, but I learned that you may be a genius out of classroom and, on exams, just be average. I learn for the sake of learning. But I study before tests, and if it stays healthy, why fret over it? I think the fact that my school doesn't rank students really helps. So, you're not the only one out there. (Actually, I know this guy that is always asking me my grades. THAT is unhealthy.)

ask yourself what will matter 10 or 20 years down the line.
