I wasn't aware English was a science. Modern English has evolved in such a way that in everyday speech saying 'too mediocre/average' is both perfectly acceptable and perfectly understandable. Clearly what he means is - is he too average, too normal, not amazing enough for Harvard, with the stress in the appropriate places subtly adding something to the meaning of the sentence. At any rate mediocrity cannot possibly exist at only one level as there is much variation within this particular 'band' of quality.

Don't try that "English has evolved" stuff with me. Pick up a grammar book, and you will see that modification rules have NOT gone away.

It seems noone, not even your good self, is perfect. I think however the question here really should be - why on earth do you care? Perhaps he has somehow annoyed or insulted you?

What can I say? It bothers me. Perhaps it is just one of those grammatical rules obvious only to me. Anyway, I won't bring it up anymore.

No, my dear friend. That "honor" no longer belongs to Belmont High. The current "largest high school" in the nation is Elizabeth High School of Elizabeth, NJ, which boasts 5,216 students.

By 77 students, precisely. However, it doesn't really have the "wow factor" as it is the only high school in the Elizabeth district, whereas Belmont SENIOR (not simply "Belmont") is one of hundreds of overcrowed schools in Los Angeles County (which serves approximately 740,000 students... I shudder just thinking about going to an LAUSC school).

My rank out of 11,000 is how our district ranks. We don't have any indication of rank-in-class except for who is #1, of course. Even that, however, is determined by your rank in county.

That IS weird... BTW, sorry for being a grammar-Nazi *******.
