Am I under an obligation to take my AP tests?

So this year I've taken AP govt., AP Stats, and AP Lang, but I don't want to take the Stats or Lang test, the reason being that they won't help me get any pre-recs out of the way.

On Minerva it says something around the lines of
"awaiting high school diploma" and "awaiting AP test results"

Just cause I took an AP class doesnt mean I am required to take the test, right?

I mean I could easily pass both of them, but I don't plan on taking either of them anyway since for the Arts general program, I'll have AP govt and ap psych credits to get me out of social sciences core, then I'll be taking probably 2 philosophy/ civilization classes my first year to fulfill humanities credits, and then I'll be taking foreign language too.

no you don't. we just have to send in our AP results that we already have by march 15th and the new ones after we take them.
now i'm curious as to which APs will actually get me credits for the science curriculum... hmmm

There should be something somewhere on the website, I'm sure AP chem and AP physics are honored...

Actually, I found you the link... Advanced Placement examinations

In the first paragraph they briefly state who can exempt themselves from what, mainly sciences kids can only get 18 non-math or science credit exemptions (that should take care of your out of curriculum requirements though...).

The more I've been talking to certain people, however, the more I've become informed to the fact that AP'ing out isn't always the best plan of actions (for the sciences/engineering classes at least). If you're going in to a pre-med track, you are gonna want to be as strong in your chemistry/biology classes as possible. Should your AP curriculum not be as wide as McGill's analogous curriculum, you could be putting yourself in an unfortunate game of catch up come your first few weeks of classes next year (i.e. the "review" your organic chem or biology professors will be going over, might not be review for you...).

If I listed on my application that I will be taking so and so ap exams, am I obligated to do so?

doubt it. they actually wanted me to send an email to them after i send the scores i already have to tell them that more are coming in may, and i did write on my apps which ones i will be taking in may.

wait? McGill asked what tests you'de be taking?
I never had to mention anything like that.

in the application, test scores section, yes.

At least I don't remember doing it.

So do I have to take AP tests or not? I'm lost.

Cause I'm gonna take AP Govt test, but I dont wanna take stats and lang.

nope, i doubt it. what can they do, deny you admission? lol that'd be messed up.

My S agrees with Dr Mambo re: placing out of math and science. He placed out of Calc1 and took Calc 2 in Sept. Unfortunately, APCalc really only covers about 3/4 of Calc1 so he was catching up all semester. Very stressful.

my dad suggested me to just use my AP credits, but if i'm part-time first year, go in and listen to their classes anyway. i wonder if they'd catch me...

syzonin, are you sure that we have to send in our AP exam results by march 15th? I couldn't find anything on the website that confirms that, and I haven't sent mine in...and when we do send scores, it has to be through the AP central phone-service, right?

i called them, so if you're doubtful then you should call them. i never thought it made sense that we "HAD" to send them in before march 15th, since lots of people are waiting for decisions from mcgill/other schools even after that date. meh.
and ya, ap phone service

syzonin, I don't really get your part-time situation...but w/e. No one will know if you don't register for the calculus I lectures here (the halls are always so packed, and no one ID's students the probability is very low that you'd have a problem). It should be noted, though, that sitting in on a lecture (when you partially know the material, and aren't getting credit) is a SUPREME waste of time. Either go for the victory lap/easy A, or self-study from the book, because I will bet heavy money that you'll loose the urge to attend an 8:30 lecture you're not getting credit for very early into the term.

according to this page
Advanced Placement examinations

<if you="" are="" exempted="" from="" the="" mcgill="" course,="" will="" not="" receive="" credit="" if="" take="" course.=""></if>

it also says that they need final AP scores of 4 or 5, at the time of initial registration

Thanks syzonin. Yeah, I guess I'll just call admissions and throw them my scores, better safe than sorry. Wouldn't want my admission rescinded...I would be devastated haha.

do I have to send in my scores even if I am decision pending right now ? Did the people who already got in send in their scores before being accepted ?

I never knew about this...I just thought that the AP scores were on the transcripts...

another question...what is the max amount of credits that I can get if I somehow get in to fac of B.Sc. ? I will have about 12 APs in total when I graduate...

credits from 12 ap classes? or 12 ap credits (ap scores of 4or 5 will give you anywhere between 3-6 credits at McGill im pretty sure).

12 ap classes...can u please also answer my first question ?
