Am I waaay over the common app limit???

Unfortunately i have 526 words and I've already cut down too much. I was once at 700 and how i got it down to this little is a miracle. Will the common app cut my essay off or is that only for the extra-curricular essay? thank you

If you can cut an essay to the size needed, often it is best to throw out that essay, and write an entirely new one.

Sorry, that should read “can’t cut”.

ok can i have an answer thats not sarcastic?

Sorry, but I do mean that seriously. Sometimes it really is best to start over from scratch. So much of writing is re-writing. Often I have found that when I hit the fourth or fifth draft, I finally realize where the writing is headed, and indeed it turn out to be a case of throwing out most (or sometimes even all), and starting over.

If your current essay has been trimmed and re-trimmed, and now you just feel unhappy when you look at it, walk away. Come back to it in a day or two, and see what you think. You may have a whole new vision for making it work.

Wishing you all the best!

One the ones that you have to upload, it doesn’t cut off. So no, it won’t cut off.

526 words really isn’t that much over. As long as it’s viewable in the common app PDF you should be fine.
