Am I wasting my time?

I am a junior and planning on applying to Notre Dame as my number one choice. It's really the only school I want to go to; any other would be a disappointment. I just don't know if I have the credentials so I was hoping for an opinion. What makes me nervous are my ACT scores and the fact that I am not a legacy.

White/male/Michigan/catholic

UW GPA:4.02
Class rank 15/468 (and it keeps rising every semester)

ACT PRACTICE TEST: 29 (I just took the real one and it went much better, I'd guess a 30-31) also taking the ACT again in April and two SAT subject tests.

I've taken the hardest schedule available to me except in science (no plans to major in anything to do with science) with 5 AP's so far and 3 planned for my senior year.

Organizing a voter registration drive for this year and will do it again my senior year
Varsity Tennis and Track
President of Key Club and Secretary of Student Council
Member of SADD (students against drunk driving)
Member of NHS
lots of volunteer hours

Thank you for taking your time reading this even though it must be boring lol.

I think you look like a good candidate for ND, see how you do on the ACT.

i definitely think you have as good a shot as anybody. take the chance or you'll never know!

good luck

Thanks for your responses!

Vinnie, I think you are doing what you need to do, you sound like a very accomplished and well-rounded HS student. Keep working hard and bring up the ACT score, then hope for the best. One word of advice as you begin your colege search: don't get fixated on one school as the only place you can be happy. Give yourself a range of options, safety to probable to reach. There are many good schools out there, and more than one where you can be happy and get a good, even great education. I firmly believe it is the student that makes the education great before the school does. Best of Luck.

i agree with merkur. i was just accepted EA at ND and I was set on it. i've realized now that even though ND would always be closest to my heart, I could succeed and be happy at other places.

Some other schools I was very interested in:
Vanderbilt
Virginia
Villanova

Yeah, i guess you are right because I don't want to end up like those subway alum people who are obsessed with ND and think their lives are a failure for not getting in. lol

I am considering other options (Michigan, BC, Vanderbilt among others) but Notre Dame is definetely my number one choice.

yeah, for sure. don't worry, be confident. it's just nice to have the options. no matter what, you can always be an ND fan
