Amazing Extracurriculars

Can incredible extracurriculars (obviously out of school achievements) take someone to the Ivy League if they have a strong courseload, good SAT/ACT scores, but do not rank in the top 10% but rather the top 20%?

I noticed many of the Ivys have some acceptances who are in the top 20%, and excluding athletes, does anyone know of someone who has entered due to an incredible ec?

Thanks.

Yes absolutely, but you gotta pair those with a decent SAT score. And they're arent that many who get into top tier schools with GPAs below 3.7 there are usually 1-2 percent who get in with low GPAs

Describe "decent SAT score." I'm in a similar boat. Would being in the 1900 range be sufficient?

2200 is pretty much expected of an Ivy Applicant. I should also mention that although it is possible to get in with excellent ECs it is still extremely difficult.

well according to collegeboard's stats for harvard...

95% in top 10th of graduating class

100% in top quarter of graduating class

so it's harder to get in if ur not in top 10 percent but not impossible...

I thought that 5% from Harvard were URM's, athletes, etc.?

Thats exactly my worry. With HYPS having over 96% in the top 10%, doesn't that mean that the other 4% are athletes, URMs, etc.?

What exactly are you "amazing" extracurriculars though? An amazing activity may not be very amazing by Ivy standards as they admit several Olympic athletes, world record holders, etc.

Lets try to stray away from the athletic acceptances. It is obvious why Olympic athletes are accepted.

I'm thinking of thingss that people have done on their own. Perhaps someone who has published a novel, created a large website with thousands of members, or has self-directed movies and documentaries.

Any ideas?

Like myspace? If it's that grand, definitely.

lol If you made Myspace, you won't need college. It experiences profits in the multi-millions.

Actually, I think it's in the billions. :P I fail to see how myspace makes money though. tis free. guess the advertiser's are insane.

Lol myspace advertises like crazy. You'd have to like create your own non profit company and donate allt he money to cure cancer or something amazing.

Lets say the website wasn't as big as myspace, but had like 20,000 members or so.
