Very happy to have The Amazing Race to watch! I am looking forward to watching this group.
I finally watched! I miss the 90 minute format, this episode went way too fast for me. LOVED the steel drum challenge, reminded me of that old game “Simon” (red, yellow, blue, green colors, repeat after they flash) - Now I want a steel drum, but only if it’s marked with numbers!
I literally OOFed out loud when that young girl hit the mat. She said she was ok, but I have my doubts.
I also was confused why the first elimination occurred when they would be continuing to race. I was disappointed.
And finally, also thrilled it’s basically “real” people vs reality stars, etc.
^^It was her recovery when Phil helped her up that made me laugh.
Did no one watch the 2nd episode??? Again, I was a bit surprised there was not a non-elim. Also surprised at the truck decorating that the horn was not heard thus more obvious to the other couples.
I watched.
Memo to teams:
Step 1: Read the clue
Step 2: When the judge says no, go back to step 1.
I just watched last night - the tightrope would’ve had me over and done. But no one really seemed to struggle with that. Also surprised that it wasn’t a non-elimination leg. So far I like the show. I had to laugh, I thought the husband/wife team were brother/sister! And yes…read the clue and if your partner says “I want to read the clue” don’t yell at them, you’re a team. If they want to read it, let them read it!
I was surprised of the edit they gave the team (the gay partners) when the one asked to see the clue and the other refused - yet in the end they sort of both took the blame for not reading it!
YES, that tightrope! Somehow it must have been easier or less “hard” than shown. Only the one woman showed any fear over doing it.
Not reading the clue and getting lost because you can’t read a map or don’t pay attention to road signs has been the path to elimination for countless teams.
I thought that the yield made an early appearance but the teams seem smart enough to know that it was too soon to use it. The only result would have been to create animosity.
Agree that the first rule of The Amazing Race is “Read the Clue”!
I’m sure teams know by now that they need to carefully read the clue, but in the heat of the moment they start whatever they have to do as soon as they think they know what they have to do.
And after a gazillion episodes, there will still be a team that doesn’t know how to drive a manual transmission. Why would you not learn how to do that before traveling to Africa or Ireland?
Tonight was Part 2 of read the clue…all the way to the end.
I had so much anxiety during last night’s episode! I loved that we finally got a few clues as to how long a boat ride was (the football players mentioned it) and how long the sister team wasted looking for the clue (because they put it on the screen for us).
I didn’t like that the boyfriend/girlfriend team who helped a team last week got u-turned, but then the other teams turned around and created a 5? team alliance…
I wonder what would’ve happened if teams didn’t bring their items from the market. Would they have been penalized? Would they have only had the option of the roof-building? It seems that only the teams that got u-turned absolutely needed those items.
^^ I think that they would still had to have retrieved the items. Amazing Race is pretty much a stickler for the correct steps.
I think it looked bad that the male couple - in first place - u-turned. That will only put a target on their back . Not the time to do it.
@abasket , if a team did not bring their market items and it was required, and they were not able to go back and retrieve them, it’s possible that might have been made to sit out a time penalty at the check in mat.
The team in first definitely put a target on their back. There was no reason for them to use the u-turn other than spite.
@MADad yes correct on the penalty. I guess I was trying to say that on AR, you follow the rules of the clue or pay the price in one way or another!!!
Loved the episode. I really enjoy challenges that are just that…challenges. Not necessarily strength or endurance but one of fortitude.
And for goodness sake, future racers (and I really am talking to myself!) READ THE CLUE…CAREFULLY!
I was curious about the teams that forgot their market items. Would they be allowed to do the palm roof challenge instead? I think it would only have hurt the teams that got U turned and would have to go over to the cooking challenge. But, I guess they get a penalty or something even if they just went for the palm roof challenge.
