It’s still worth it for me. Amazon is my go-to grocery store. It actually saves us money, because we have a bad habit of going into the store with a list, then tossing it out the window, and buying a bunch of things we don’t need. LOL! Plus, half the time we’re in the store, people are in panic mode (again) and it’s a zoo. We can bypass those problems with Amazon.
I just set up an email reminder before my next membership is due, so I can cancel it then. Most of our orders are over $25 anyway, and 2-day delivery usually takes longer than just 2 days anyway. I have tried to stay away from Amazon but haven’t been as successful as I would like. This will push me to shop elsewhere a little bit more. Amazon is extremely convenient but not exactly reliable and frustration free, and their business practices are quite questionable.
I also looked, 95 orders in 2021; and this doesn’t include the things my H ordered. During the pandemic, this kind of online retail therapy in receiving a couple of packages a week keeps me happier while being shut in.
I returned an item that way a few months ago, got a credit right away. Didn’t think any more of it until I got an email from Amazon “we’re still waiting for your return, you will be charged if we don’t receive it by X date”. And sure enough they did. I don’t know if the store didn’t scan it correctly or if the warehouse they sent it to messed up, but either way it wasn’t my fault. I was a bit troubled that at Whole Foods they don’t print out a receipt, you just get a smile and “thanks”. So I didn’t have a way to prove I’d handed it to a clerk, although after using online chat with Amazon they refunded the re-charge, now I’m just waiting to see if I’m once again charged for it (I’m not paranoid, but the computers are out to get us )
We do order at least a few things each month on Amazon. We also watch a lot of Amazon Prime shows and movies. So keeping it makes sense.
I placed 107 orders in 2021 from my Prime account. Think I’ll keep it at $139.
My brother became a Prime member very early on where you could add a family member at no charge, even if you had a different mailing address. Consequently my family has gotten free two day shipping for more than 10 years. They grandfathered us in as they made changes to membership. We don’t use it for video or music streaming.
JB doesn’t already make enough $$$? Frankly I’m very disturbed by Amazon (and Facebook, and a few other tech giants).
I’m appalled how Amazon treated some of the workers, especially in the early days of the pandemic, and the HUGE disparity in incomes. A great idea deserves to be rewarded, but at some point the disparity between the highest paid worker and lowest paid worker in some companies should be considered. In the case of Amazon, JB’s income and the disparity is almost obscene (imho).
We use it, but anytime I order something, I look for an alternative source first, and only if unavailable, will I order from Amazon. A rate hike “because he can” is disturbing.
We don’t have nearly as many orders as some of you, but fortunately we just renewed at the old price. Most of our orders come next day, sometimes same day. We haven’t been watching much from them recently though. Prime makes it easy to send things to a kid in college.
I had 178 orders in 2021. It’s usually more but we didn’t do many presents for Christmas last year. I live close to a distribution center so I get most items same day or next day.
102 orders in 2021. I know there are reasons not to like Amazon, but I am dazzled by their efficiency, their logistics, their book reviews. And when I’m in a brick and mortar store about to buy something, I always check on Amazon with my phone to determine whether I should buy it in the store or not. It’s also so convenient to send a gift via Amazon. And when I need something that I’d have no idea how to find – the latest was a special battery for my car’s key fob – I can find it in a minute on Amazon and get it in two days.
I do bunch my purchases when they’re not urgent, and I also check the button to have my purchases delivered on one day. That way I get a credit that I can use toward Kindle and Prime Video purchases.
I’ve soured on Amazon. Too many third-party sellers, fake reviews, and the practice of dynamic pricing.
We are a fairly minimalist family, so we don’t buy a lot, anyway. But for tech items, Best Buy is an example of our Amazon replacement. Same prices for a much better customer experience.
My use of Amazon saves the environment. It could take the better part of a morning, driving to a number of locations in the HOPES of finding what I need - using the gas, clogging the roads etc. (Often a merchant, let’s pick on Macy’s, will not have the particular item in stock but will offer to order it for shipment to my home)…Or, I can place an Amazon order for the items and have ONE truck bring it to my house while already doing the same thing throughout the neighborhood.
I find it oddly amusing that a site - dedicated to people spending untold $$ on the absolute perfect college for their offspring - has those same parents lamenting a $20 ANNUAL fee increase. And then folks go off and expound on how horrible JB is and how they really don’t support him but will continue to use the service and pay the increased fee.
People are weird.
Never had Prime, there’s simply not a need for it.
And I saw a news story online that said that one can extend your membership at the existing price by buying a gift membership and waiting to apply it to your account the day before your renewal is set to be charged.
YMMV
We live in a rural area and used to really rely on Amazon. In the last six months or so, though, they’ve changed our two day shipping to be-- l kid you not-- two week shipping. It just isn’t valuable enough for them to make it anywhere close to a reasonable shipping time. When we change the delivery location to my DD’s college in a city it changes to next day shipping. I want to cancel, but my husband says it’s still convenient. So we’re keeping it.
In our state—HI, shipping can be crazy expensive, sometimes several times the price of the item. My H appreciates being able to get whatever he wants in a reasonable amount of time and without exhibiting shipping costs. We will be keeping it as well.
Gosh that’s terrible.
I could do that but opt not to. I want the brick and mortar stores to stick around, so I’m willing to (within reason) pay a bit of premium. But I do use Amazon a lot, often in order to save chasing around at the locals stores.
245 orders in 2021
I am currently on the student discount from my oldest who is graduating this April (and it renews in June - not sure I can get another year out of it). I’ll have to see if I can transfer the discount to my college freshman.
If not, I will pay it. It is incredibly convenient living in a smaller area where you might go to three stores and still not find what you need. The shipping time is generally pretty good, and I choose “no rush” shipping when I can to get a digital credit for movies.
