Amazon Prime Student, awesome deal

No this is not a random spam post, even though it may seem that way. There's a sweet program on Amazon called Amazon Prime. It has a few perks but the best one is that you get free two-day shipping on any order shipped by Amazon. Doesn't matter if it's a cheap TV cable or the TV you're buying it for. If you're a student you can get one year of free Amazon Prime just by entering your university .edu email address and confirming it:

Amazon Student

I got this last year and it's been pretty damn awesome to be honest. I highly recommend it. And after that free year you can re-up for half price. Definitely a life-saver if you realize you need a textbook and it's only a few days before the semester starts, or if you just really really want to get a video game as soon as possible without paying more than necessary.

I don’t use Amazon Prime all that much, even though I signed up for it last year. If I’m buying a textbook and there’s one at $45 without Amazon Prime and one at $70 with Amazon Prime, I’m getting the one with the lower price. I remember how for spring semester, I was buying a bunch of textbooks from Amazon, and the cost for my Calculus text was somewhere around $190 with Amazon Prime whereas it was only $100 without Amazon Prime (of course, I know that’s also due to how people price their items). There were only two instances when I ordered something on Amazon that mentioned Amazon Prime in their listings and were cheaper than other listings, but the two items I ordered weren’t textbooks at all–just songbooks for my Advanced Voice class.

I’ve never seen that happen. I got a CD for ten bucks, just like it was w/o Prime.

I think everyone already knew about this

Meh $40 for second year, was hoping it’d be free.

Saw that coming from lightyears ahead. My school email allows me to use multiple addresses for one email, and I signed up again using a new email name

I’m running out of my free year. It’s been useful and I’d recommend it to anyone but I don’t think I feel like paying that much for a second year.

^^unless of course you like instant streaming of movies and TV shows unlimited for the year…did you know it includes that?

How do you get the free movies/shows?

Amazon Prime applies to everything from Amazon. You probably bought stuff using Amazon Marketplace, which means you’re buying from other sellers. Amazon only sells things at one price.

you use amazon video on-demand, either on your computer:

[Amazon.com: Amazon Instant Video: Amazon Instant Video](http://www.amazon.com/Instant-Video/b?ie=UTF8&node=2858778011)

or on various web-enabled TVs, set-top boxes and media devices

Wow thanks for posting! I didn’t know that, and the unlimited free tv and movies… That’s AWESOME. :D

Not all TV shows and movies mind you. I think only the older releases. For instance I do have to pay for Hobo With A Shotgun but others are available for free.

I just looked it up- the video part is not included in the free student thing, only the actual, regular Amazon Prime membership, or the free trial, but that only lasts a month and you have to put in a credit card number which then gets auto charged at the end of the month unless you cancel. :frowning: boo. The free ones you’re probably talking about are actually free for anyone, with any kind of Amazon account. They just occasionally have the season opener of a four year old show for free sometimes, stuff like that.

When you renew for the $39 after the free trial, you get access to the free Video On Demand stuff just fyi.

I buy all sorts of stuff from Amazon. Right now I’m on my mom’s subscription to Amazon Prime, but that’s running out right after school starts so I plan to switch to Amazon Student after that so I can continue to get my stuff in two days! If you order a lot of stuff offline, Amazon Prime is definitely worth getting. It is a good deal, especially around holidays and birthdays!!!

I got it last year and it’ll end this January. I buy a lot of stuff from Amazon so it’s been really useful. I’m not sure if I want to pay 40 dollars for the 3nd year though. The 2 day shippings a nice touch but I think I can go without it.

Note that unlike Prime memberships, Student memberships cannot be shared. Generally an Amazon Prime member (regular full price) can give up to four Primes away at no charge to friends/family/whoever. This is not the case with the Student membership.

If you have friends/family interested, you may sign want to sign up for the $80 and sell spots to friends for something like $15-$20.

There is an Amazon Mom membership that gives 1 year free and allows for giving of Prime to up to one person.

Okay, a little trick regarding Amazon Prime. You can sign up for a free month when you create a new amazon account with a different email, with no limit on how many accounts you can have :P. I personally don’t see anything wrong with doing it…and so I hope they dont fix it =/

Good to know, I never tried it, but I assumed they would have stopped anything like that by tracking your name and address or CC Number.

Amazon Prime was SOOOOOO worth it for me. I looked at my orders on Amazon for the past year (membership is up in September) and I’ve purchased over 40 things from Amazon, with only 2 items as one-day shipping ($8 total). That’s $8 shipping that I’ve paid for the past year on Amazon… or approx $.20 per item for 2-day shipping.
