AMC 10

When are we allowed to discuss the answers (what time exactly)?

I think we are allowed to discuss now. Do you all remember your(or write down) your answers?

Yep, we were allowed to bring home our booklets.

Maybe we should wait until the AMC 10A thread on AoPS is unlocked. They said discussion would be allowed on Wednesday morning, but the thread hasn’t been unlocked yet…we should wait until the afternoon to be safe.

THREAD IS UNLOCKED  What did you all get for #17, the dice question? Wasn’t sure how to approach it.

got a 141, missed 11, left blank 14,25 except weather made the score invalid, thus skrewing my chances at jmo!!! :(( :frowning:

At my school we can take the AMC 10 B on Feb 19. Any advice for how I can prepare? And what is the difference between A and B?

Dang @wcao9311 that sucks. Nice score though, I managed a 90. I’ll actually prep next year lol to get an AIME score.

How did you get a 141? 11 wrong are 0 points. 12 correct are 72 points, and 2 blank are 3 points. This gives 75 points. 6 points are for a correct answer, 0 for a wrong, and 1.5 for a blank.

sorry, 135^…

Still doesn’t make sense… @wcao9311

Wow, I feel embarrassed with my score hahah. A 135 (or something around that)? I would be exuberant with that.

By the way, does anyone have an estimate as to the average score of all participants?

avg is 75., I had to take it on a make up that was unofficial, because of weather closing te school system down.

^For your school or for the nation?

I mean, I have 0 experience with the AMC, but that seems like a pretty high national score considering you can get a 37.5 without answering any questions (although it’s only 8 or 9 questions correct…). Didn’t someone on this thread mention their teacher saying how it would be impressive if someone answered 5+ questions correctly?

If that’s true though, at least I did better than the national average. :P

On the AMC 10, 5 questions is honestly not impressive, even if they have no prior experience. Clearly the teacher hasn’t looked at previous AMC 10s…

What do you think of buying just one of the AoPS books? Should I buy the first one, or the second one, or would you really recommend buying both? I’m a junior with a strong (Chinese) mathematics background. I’d like to start preparing now, over the summer. I only got 89 this year without preparation, but I’d like to at least qualify for AIME next year.

@AngEverlasting‌ - What grade are you in? Yes, I definitely recommend the AoPS books! I did alright on the 10 last year (didn’t make AIME, but wasn’t expecting to because I had 0 prep); I’m planning on taking the 12 next year, but I got both volumes 1 + 2, and they’re incredible!
