AMC 12 American Mathematics Competition

lol @ jamesford.

When will they come up with the cutoff scores for 12B?

Wow, look at this http://www.mathlinks.ro/viewtopic.php?p=1422275#1422275

Has the cutoff ever went down to a 94?

^The cutoff was 84 in 2001.

Does anyone know when they'll have state statistics? I'm curious to see if anyone else qualified from my state.

Given that the British SMC is a selection step for British Math Olympiads, I would presume that it is rather similar in difficulty to the AMC.

Yeah, the only problem with that is that the US IMO team is much much better than the British IMO team...

lol burned

lol. Anyways, how much calc is covered in 12A/B?

^None, I used more Calculus on a Physical Science test in 8th grade than on any AMC...

78.0 - yet the highest score in my school:?

Lol, k, thanks, then, I'll take it next year. I was worried since I'm only gonna be in Calc BC junior year, so if I haven't covered the full topics...

Yes, the cutoff was 84 in 2001, but that's because the 2001 test was absurdly difficult. If it was going to be anywhere near that low, the internet (read: AoPS) would be lighting up with comments about how brutal it was. Aside from 2001, the cutoff has never been lower than 97.5.

Yeah Sly is right, I personally believe that the cutoff for 12B will be 97.5. 2001 was crazy! It was the first AMC 12 I ever took for practice in my life and it left me rather depressed...

Yeah, the only problem with that is that the US IMO team is much much better than the British IMO team...

Which means that the final stage in selection will be more difficult, but before that it's meaningless because less people participate in the British selection (25ish in the final round) as supposed to the 500ish kids that take the USAMO. In earlier stages it's all about ratio.

My 94.5 is pretty much useless than as a Junior?

I guess I should try to aim higher next year as a Senior.
I wanted to at least try the AIME as a Junior.

when/how did you find out your scores? My son took the test but hasn't shared his scores - so he either doesn't know or didn't do that well.......He did very well on SAT's - 760 on SAT I and on SAT II's 780 Math 1, 800 Math II - so I think he was hoping to do well. He does a lot of math problems on his own for "fun".

^Schools received A test scores last week. B scores will be coming out within the next week or so.

Yeah A results are in for just about everyone. Just found out that I qualified :)

I think my B results are around 112, should I bother sending them in when they come out this week? I already qualified for AIME last year, so they have that info already, so should I bother sending an improved score for this year? Also, are there significantly less girls that qualify for AIME?

Missed it by one question, bah!
I got a 94.5, highest among the Juniors. And I think second highest in my school.

My school refuses to offer AMC. I'm thinking of going to take it at a college next year (it would have to be the B date, right? the website isn't entirely clear). This would be my first competition math. Would it be too late to send an update to colleges if I do well?

Is there anything like the AMC/AIME/USAMO that I can take to show my math skills before application season next year? Other than the easy Math II SAT.

Is it useless to get the AIME during senior year?
