Yes it is.

American Invitational Mathematics Examination - AIME

I just received officially confirmation that I have an AIME qualifier out of my testing group, and since school break is during AIME I week, we will schedule the AIME on the AIME II date. Good luck to all of you who will taking the AIME this year.

Woah.

AIME I is only 8 days away.

Hooray!

This kind of stuff makes me wish I went to a high school attended by kids of families of a higher income bracket. I would have known about all this long ago.

I do a lot of the informing the public about AMC testing in my town. The schools in the high-income neighborhoods don't necessarily tell anyone about AMC tests. I have been very gratified to see a lot of homeschoolers and students from uninformed public school districts participate in my testing group.

BeKindRewind/ yeah, like the person above said, schools in high-income neighborhoods do not necessarily tell anyone about these tests. I go to a seriously rich school with seriously rich kids but no one ever told anyone about AMC. I just had to figure it out.

At my school the math teachers tell everybody to take it and around 50 kids or so show up to take it.

Two more days... and I haven't done ****. I'm so screwed.

I might do a practice test today. The problem is, I did all the old AIMEs last year. :-/

Yea but you'll be fine. You actually know what you're doing and have already been accepted to college lol.
I don't know what the heck I'm doing and it would be really sweet to be like "yea I qualified for usamo junior year so take it sucka".
Hopefully I'm the only qualifier in my state... That way I advance no matter what.

I am so ready to not fail this time.

aluminum, what state are you from? I have no chance of an auto-qualify since I'm from New Jersey :(.

That's a secret. But I would guess 3 people qualified for the aime max. Probably 2

Hmmm...goldenratioΦ, you don't have to take a practice test! You're like a math god!

As far as my prep is concerned, the good news is that I stand at 29/30...
The bad news is that I'm only doing #1-10....
=(

Last year I bombed #11-15 on the AIME, with very trivial errors on 13 and 14 =(

aluminumboat, try and actually qualify via the index, it will make you feel a lot better about yourself....

I'm going to guess that you're from Alaska, Idaho, North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wyoming. You probably will not qualify for USAMO if you are from Alaska or Idaho, while you have a decent chance of qualifying if you are from North Dakota, South Dakota, or Wyoming.

To qualify by the index. I'd need a 12

Clear your pms databox please

cleared 10char

To all readers: What is, in your opinion, a good aime score?

6-7 10chars

7+ is decent.

I'd say scoring any points at all on the AIME is something to be proud of, especially if you're a younger student. If you're seriously good at math contests (USAMO-level or close to it), 6 or 7 would be a good number to shoot for. 9 or more, and you're putting yourself into contention for a USAMO spot.

Speaking of the AIME, remember that you may not discuss it here (or anywhere else on the interwebs) until at least Wednesday. And "Wednesday" means "it's Wednesday in every time zone".
