Some people thought it was actually harder than the 12A. I think the cutoff will be under 100.
I’m pulling for 93 lol
@aBitOfLuck Tbh I think that’s what it will be, I mean the A and B were pretty similar but the B had some easy to mess up on problems that probably messed with some people.
@APS2000 I can only implore the mercy of God at this point, but hopefully everyone else, specifically the 95th percentile of everyone else, scored a 93 or below.

whaaaa sad…now i need a 10 to qualify for USAMO …
last year i got 139.5 amc12a and like a 7 on AIME…barely missed USAMO and my goal this year was to make…
this year need a 10 to qualify for USAMO and USAJMO
(im 10th grade btw)
@mathdude12345 I hope you make it! Having taken the AIME before might help you a bit. How do you know the cutoff?
12B cutoff out!
AIME floor was 106.5… anyone knows what happened to the 100 rule? This is my first year taking AMC (I got a 102) and I’m really confused because I planned my whole strategy based on the assumption that the cutoff was 100 or 5%, whichever has more people.
But apparently I didn’t qualify for AIME…
It’s been my understanding that if you score above 100, you qualify for AIME regardless of whether or not you’re below the 5% cutoff for that year.
@picuberoot apparently it’s not the case - my math teacher sent me an email telling me that I got a 102 but the cutoff this year was 106.5. I’m really confused - I was under the same impression that I would qualify for AIME no matter what if I scored higher than 100… looking at the honor roll on the MAA website shows that the cutoff does seem to be 106.5.
has anyone encountered the same situation?
There has been huge confusion over this week for the past few days on the AoPS Community. To summarize, the AMC Director has posted that they are currently looking into the 12B cutoff situation, so it’s probably best to just wait for the next few days until they come out with an official announcement.

This is quoted directly from the maa website:
Q. AIME #5. How do I qualify for the AIME?
A. Students who score 100 or above or finish in the top 5% (whichever is more inclusive) on an AMC 12 or students who score 120 or above or finish in the top 2.5% (whichever is more inclusive) on the AMC 10 are eligible to take the American Invitational Mathematics Examination (AIME). The AMC will automatically send a copy of the first date AIME contest to the school contest manager for each student achieving a qualifying score.
The honor roll on the website lists students in the top 5% but with the information given on other parts of the website, it’s possible to qualify for AMC 12 but not be on the honor roll. If they changed the rules this year, they should’ve notified us ahead of time. Many people based their testing strategies off of the 100 cutoff.
I got a 105 and now it looks like I didn’t make it…
I was already preparing for the AIME when I found out that the AMC cutoff is somehow 106.5…
Check the AoPS forums for more info. A bunch of people called this morning and were informed that the cutoff was 100 but a few hours ago, the call operators started saying it was 106.5. MAA hasn’t released an official statement yet so don’t accept your fate just yet. Challenge it.
