AMC & AIME

Wow. I've taken the AMC 3x but never really done all that well. I'm no math genius, it's just fun to take it. It's not really something I foresee on my college app "Oh, I took the AMC every year and didn't qualify"

A friend of mine at school qualified for USAMO as a 10th grader back in 2003. This year he scored somewhere in the 120-125 range on the AMC12 and got a 10 on the AIME. He didnt make USAMO...tough year.

Alessandro - Go here: http://www.unl.edu/amc/c-com,spon,dir/dir/amc1012dir.html to find your AMC state director, who will assist you in finding a nearby school which offers the tests. If your state doesn't have a director, contact AMC. They are quite helpful in arranging for students to take the tests.

I got 132.5 on the 12 and 10 on the AIME this year, missing the cutoff by .5 :(. Tough year.

Wow, that stinks...

tetrahedr0n, you must have gotten one more question right on the AMC12 than my friend, because my friend said he was extremely happy he didnt get one more right, otherwise he would have been really ****ed to miss the cutoff by .5. Anyone who does that well on the AIME should go to USAMO.

i took amc n aime, but didn't make cutoff for usamo. =(. Hope to get it next year.=)

I took the AMC's this year and i got a 108 - not too content with my score but its not bad...(highest score in school) im only a 9th grader though, so i intend to get into the AIME's next year, most of the questions are not hard, they just require some logical thinking, so if you are good at that the AMC's are good

Do colleges care about how many times you made it to AIME or just the fact that you made it once? I go to an ok school and we havent administered the AMCs in a quite a few years.

I don't know for sure, but I'm sure they'd like to see that you were consistent and were able to get to that level more than once.

:)
