amcas gpa calculation

amcas explains how they calculate gpa.

My question is, I took some community college courses in high school (just for fun) and didn't do as well as I wanted to. I used those courses to pass out of certain req's in my current university. So would those grades be placed in HS or FR?

I think that’d be HS, since you were a high schooler at the time.

It still counts in your amcas gpa regardless of when you took it. i think. because I took a class in high school at a university and i was told that it will count for any grad school application.

^ Yep - it counts on your AMCAS GPA. It will list “HS” for high school as the year of “college”, but it definitely counts.

i hope med schools give greater weight to your college gpa? like say my amcas gpa is pretty low because of high school dual classes, but i have a 4.0 in college. will they completely base their decision on the amcas gpa? can i write in a supplement saying prefer my college gpa? am i doomed for failure?

lol. jk. but help would be appreciated.

I think classes taken in high school get marked as such (that they were taken in HS).
