American Colleges and IB

Hey all,
I was just wondering if American Colleges give preference to those who take the full IB Diploma? I'm applying to colleges such as USC, UMich, UChicago, Johns Hopkins, Carnegie Mellon, UCLA and UPenn. I'm hoping to get into USC as my first choice. Do any of these colleges (or all of them) give special preference to students who do the IB Diploma, or do they treat all the AP and the IB students equally?

Thanks for all your help!

not really (10 chars)

Some U.S. colleges will. Most college apps require that your h.s. counselor indicate the rigor of the curriculum that you are pursuing. If the IB program is the most rigorous program (which is usually the case), then he/she will indicate that. That will give some meaning to your grades.

However, it’s difficult to judge between an IB diploma candidate and a student who has taken 10+ AP courses. Whatever preference is given is probably not huge.

They’ll call it even with AP scholar, I’d imagine. Not much more than that. It’s not “prestigious” but rather expected, considering the the upper-tier colleges you’re looking at. Not doing it will hurt you, I’d say.
