Love: how simply BIG it is (this is because I’ve lived in tiny New Zealand for seven years of my life), multicultural society, freedom of speech
Hate: Terrorist threats, fights between cultures within the country
Fascination: American 20th century literature (F Scott Fitgerald, J D Salinger)

Love: American dynamism (I’m not American)
Hate: I belive Paris Hilton and the rest of Holywood reside in America.
Fascinates: The vastness of the country and the sheer enormity of the opportunities available. (This should also be listed in what I love about America.) and the different sects in the country-Jewish, Irish, WASPs etc. Have you guys ever wondered why immigrants like Jews are more successful than others- is it genetic or work ethic and culture.

I’m going to say it’s cultural. Historically, if you were a good Jew you studied Torah (similar to the Bible). The most respected in Jewish society were those who had an intimate knowledge of Torah; rabbis were like scholars who would debate amongst themselves interpretations of the Torah. Because Jews have faced so much discrimination and persecution, and so many people attempting to kill them and their religion, the best way they could endure was to pass on the knowledge of their history, culture, and religion. Athleticism was never valued as much as learning.

Jewish pride! : D

@hanana: OH the '20s are SOOOOO amazing. I love them so so so much. '20s literature is the best. I love Fitzgerald, Faulkner, Salinger, Hemingway, etc.

ALSO: LOVE: Authors of the early to mid 20th Century! Favs: Fitzgerald, Hemingway, Saligner, and Tolkien

Love: The diverse variety of landscapes and the spirit of innovation (although I fear we are losing the latter)
Hate: The insistence on favoring the underdog or counting on the impossible and our federal immigration policies
Fascinating: The degree to which the rest of the world has become Americanized

Love: How wonderful some people are, how SOME people look out for others/charity.

Hate: How much emphasis we put on professional sports/tv and film. Mainly because of the disgusting amount that people get paid.

Fascinating: (in a bad way) how horrible and single-minded people can be.

List one thing that you love about it: Variety. The fact that you can do so many things during your day, each day, all day, everyday.

List one thing that you hate about it: How stupid people are and how they think they’re better than you no matter what.

List one thing that fascinates you the most: The fact that our society still is thriving off other societies, even though ours appears to be in turmoil a lot of the time.
