American senior- could I be accepted to a university in London?

Hi! I am pretty much done with high school now, and am currently committed to University of Iowa for freshman year. However, I love the idea of studying in London, as I have always enjoyed traveling there, and don’t love Iowa nearly as much. I have a 3.5/4 GPA, a 26 ACT, was a member of National Honor Society for two years, and volunteered weekly. Do you think any London universities would accept me? Thanks!

Generally speaking, universities in the UK are very test and GPA driven. Have you considered doing a study abroad there instead?

I am sure you will find some UK unis which will accept you. The process is very different there. They want to see AP scores. You need a better idea of which colleges you are interested in. If you are in state for Iowa, expect to pay something like $30,000 a year PLUS housing and expenses. London is an extremely expensive city and the cost of living is high. Have you discussed this with your parents?

There are several universities in and around London, just like there are several universities in any major American city. Plus, you need to be committed to studying one subject only, right from the start. If you decide you want to change your major, that’s a problem. You start over again, unless some courses are transferable to another major.

I get the sense you have no idea of what’s actually involved in this process. Do some research and come back with specific questions.

I should clarify that I meant I state tuition for Iowa as opposed to tuition in the UK, whihc will be around $30k, not including housing.

What subject do you want to study? In the UK you have to apply for just one, or a specific combination of subjects, and that’s all you will study, with no gen eds, no opportunity to explore other areas and little to no chance to change course once started. As stated, you will also need to have taken some AP courses. If you haven’t, then you can apply as a freshman after having done a freshman year in the US. But we need more info about you to advise further.
