I am entering my senior year in high school and American is at the top of my college list. What are my chances?
Weighted GPA: 4.04
SAT: 1380
ACT: 30 (retaking in september, most likely going to submit ACT instead of SAT)
Class rank: My school doesn’t rank, but I am in the top 25% of my class.
Extracurriculars:
-Drama club (grades 9-12)- cast member of all plays, lead role junior year, stage crew for several musicals
-Volunteer work with animal shelter (10-12)
-Volunteer work with food bank (9)
-Volunteer work with an organization for hospitalized children (10-12)
-Member of a human rights club at school (12)
-Member of the National Honor Society
-Played the piano for 12 years
I am currently unsure about whether I am going to apply early decision or regular decision, but this school is definitely my first choice. What are my chances of acceptance (both for ED and RD)?
I feel like a broken record here but, the top three criteria for admittance into AU is demonstrated interest, gpa and rigor. Is your weighted gpa on a 5 point scale, if so you are in luck because the only weighted gpa they take is on a 5 point scale. If not what is your unweighted gpa? What is the rigor of your coursework - AP’s, honors and or dual credits? What interest have you expressed to AU? Have you visited, contacted your AU rep ect… As AU is a test optional school, test score are considered but are in their third tier of factors. (College Data gives extensive information about all colleges and their admissions criteria.) AU’s middle SAT range is 1210 (25%)—1370 (75%) and the ACT is 27 (25%)—31(75%), so right now your SAT is the one to submit as it will put you above the 75% of admitted students (unless it is very unequal between the two parts and your ACT is more consistent). They do not consider class rank. Do you know your intended major? The acceptance rate for RD is 29% and ED is 85% (with ED1 at 89%).
