I am curious about favorite dorms at American University and why...I'm also wondering about Honors dorms/floors. Help!

You’d do much better asking your question on the American board here: [American University - College Confidential](American University - College Confidential Forums)

The main decision to make regarding AU housing is South side v. North side. South side is considered the party side, but I think that is because the dorms (Letts and Anderson) are bigger and there are just more people. The rooms in all the dorms are almost identical. I would consider freshman housing at AU to be pretty typical dorm rooms - double or triple rooms along a hall with a communal bathroom (one for guys, one for girls) on each hall. Suite style rooms are reserved for upper classmen. Sorry, I don’t know anything about honors floors. My D was in a University College and really enjoyed the experience.

Thanks so much! As you can see, I am new to CC! I’ll post on the American board.

I want my C to enjoy freshman year, of course. But since C has been admitted into the Honors Program, I wanted C to be with similar students. I have “heard” (and I use that term loosely) that the South side is more fun…

Thanks for your input!

My son also was in a University College section last year and really enjoyed it. The campus is so compact that all dorms have good locations. Anderson dorm on the south end of campus is recently renovated if that makes a difference. While AU students do party as do students at all colleges–and my son has partaken in his share, I am sure–it seems that the social scene is not as wild as at some larger or more remote schools, maybe because there is a greater diversity of social outlets available to the students.

Thanks so much!

Be sure to get your deposit in early to avoid being tripled.

I’ll take care of that today megpmom! I was waiting b/c I thought that a dorm preference had to be made at the time of the deposit. Thank you!
