American University vs Dickinson College

I have gotten into both of these school. I love both of them equally I don’t know this is the hardest decision I have ever made I need some help.

I can’t speak for Dickinson personally, but I attended a very similar school (Gettysburg College). Dickinson, F&M, Gettysburg, etc. are all known for being pretty similar. If you want small class sizes, great professors, and a very small and homogeneous student body, go to Dickinson. Personally, the small LAC was NOT for me, so just make sure you LOVE the school. Small LACs are great schools, but for some, in order to truly enjoy it, you have to fit the mold.

Now as someone looking to transfer to American, I’m also bias. If you want a city, diversity, a medium sized school and nightlife, go to AU. It’s also great for internships and, of course, academics. Also, there is no “mold” and the gossip/drama among students seems less prevelant.

Best of luck!

My son was accepted at both, got a much better financial aid offer from Dickinson, but ultimately chose American.

He’s very happy at American, and absolutely loves being in DC. The school makes great use of their location.

Have you visited both schools?

Take the time to visit both schools and spend a day at each. Sit in on a class. Sit in the cafeteria or student union with a coffee and talk to everyone. Students, staff, employees, the barista at the coffee bar, everyone. Ask questions, get opinions, just observe the culture. At the end of your visits I suspect you will have a better idea which school seems the best fit for you. Best of luck!
