American University vs George Washington University

The are ranked pretty similar and based off people option and stats like ranking and acceptances rate what school i s better?

If you want a STEM degree, GWU. If you want to be a journalist/do something media related, American. Everything in between (polisci, international relations, business), the two are more or less equal. Ultimately, it comes down to city campus feel vs traditional campus feel. A decade ago, GWU would’ve been miles ahead of AU. However, AU’s acceptance rate is now 14 points below GWU’s (25% vs 39%). Choose where you feel the most at home!

My son got into both. Visits gave me the opinion that GW was a more traditional and mainstream school.
Seemed a more substantive school to me in many ways. In the end, attended another school that he did not expect to get into. But was a tough choice between these 2 before he got in where be is now. As a parent was leaning GW.

I agree with hkhosh99. There used to be a stigma that GW was better than AU, but in recent years AU has improved a lot and that stigma is no longer around. I highly recommend you visit both schools. they are only 30 minutes apart.

Good points above. Definitely visit both schools; the campuses are very different. The real question is not which school is “better” but which one is better for YOU? Visiting should help answer that question.

You might also visit the AU and GW forums here on CC; your question has been posed before, and you may find some helpful answers there.
