American University!

I will be applying ED II to AU. But I am a little iffy on my chances because my SAT score was awful (I´ll be retaking). By the way, my school offers no AP but there is dual enrollment with a community college as well as Portland State University freshman inquiry. I´ll list everything.

3.9 GPA
30 college credits with a 3.8 (my GPA is only a 3.9 because our college class grades affect our GPAs on a different scale)
4 year varsity volleyball player (varsity captain this year, voted most inspirational)
RMH charities volunteer every week
Mock trial 3 years (co-captain this year, MVP twice)
Youth volleyball mentor
Middle school OHSU mentor (I advocate for my school´s science program to families and youth on a regular basis)
PTSA member
School Dance Company (sophomore and junior year)
GLOWING letters of recommendation from very successful people who know me well
Did an 8 week research intensive at OHSU (at least 30 hours a week)
Great, very engaging personal statement
I am also in the process of becoming a hospital volunteer. Interview on the 17th!
And I shadow doctors A LOT. I have been in the NICU, ER, a pediatric clinic, and observed a knee surgery

Then I only got a 1200 on the SAT :frowning: I will be retaking! I´m really bad at test taking, I got just above that for the ACT. People from The Princeton Review will be teaching us how to take the test and letting us know what to study to improve the Saturday before the SAT (I am part of a portfolio building program).

Thanks!

AU is test optional. If you don’t like your scores after a re-take, don’t submit them. It will have no bearing on their admissions decision. Try to arrange an interview with a rep if they come to your area and demonstrate interest. You should be fine. Good luck.

You have great volleyball credentials! I don’t know anything about sports recruitment, but maybe your experiences with that sport would entice them to recruit you to their D1 team?

AU has a volleyball recruit questionnaire at: https://college.jumpforward.com/questionnaire.aspx?iid=1674&sportid=13

I found the questionnaire by going to the main AU page, Life @AU, Athletics.

Good luck!
