American v.s Canadian High School?

Hi there! I'm a grade 11 Canadian student, currently living in the GTA. I'm moving to southern California in two months. I'm terrified not only because this is my senior year and my university plans have drastically changed, I don't know what to expect in American high schools. So I wanted to ask fellow students in California (or any other states) how high school functions and if anyone has also moved from Canada to the States and how they differ. Thank you!

Each high school is different from each other, though from personal experiences, foreign and international students seem to fare well in American ones. You can still go to a Canadian university when you finish high school in America, though.

Thanks for your response! And to anyone else, what are AP and honors courses? Because in Canada we only really have ‘clustered’ (gifted) classes and IB programs…

Americans schools are not as different as they seem (I have a lot of friends that live in Canada). Honors classes are basically just a harder version of classes you could already be taking (like English or math). APs are essentially college level classes offered at high schools, they culminate in a major exam in May which if a student does well on they can get college credit for. Both AP and honors classes are optional.
P.S. We say 11th grade instead of grade 11 (it is the one school related term that will easily identify you as Canadian)

That’s nice to hear. Haha thank you for the tip as well!
