I am a sophomore who might move to canada this summer. I will prolly have to finish my last two years there. So how does the high school system work in Canada especially in cities like Vancouver and Toronto?
Do they calculate GPA similar to U.S. schools?
I was also considering IB schools. Are they really good in Canada?
Also, where are the better schools usually located?

If you can, go to an IB school. They are usually better than the regular stream (especially in public school), or they have the better teaching staff at a particular school where both streams are offered. I went to a public IB school in Alberta. Of course, you'll want to look for one with an established program - my high school has had the IB program for 20+ years, but there were a few that had fledgling programs with few course offerings.

The best thing about IB is that the curriculum is simply more extensive (for HL's and most SL's) than the regular provincial curriculums. Also, because the program is externally moderated, you get a more guaranteed standard of education, which would be important somewhere like Ontario where there are no provincial exams and teaching/grading standards vary greatly between schools, teachers, etc.

A lot of schools also offer IB certificates, or less frequently, AP courses. Once you find out where you are moving, look around at your options and try to talk to the officials at each schools (IB coordinators, counsellors, etc). A lot of times school websites (or school board websites) will show the IB exam and provincial exam results - these can be one indicator of teaching quality.

Thanks cowgirlatHeart. Are there any Ap schools in Canada that are good and offer many Ap exams? Can I apply to the good IB programs as a rising junior?

Lol, I just didn't want to make any assumptions^^. Yeah I would have taken 4 exams before I move, so I am really interested in continuing with the AP Path. But I also wanted to look at the IB program. So are there any high schools in Toronto that offer both?

There is no school in Toronto that offers both AP and IB. It's too much for any school. In fact, I believe only private schools offer AP courses in Canada. And as for IB schools, I think that the best one would be Upper Canada College. But a catch is that its filled with wealthy spoiled kids and the tuition costs a fortune.
