also, is anyone else considering calling ucas to get a copy of their reference? i asked my guidance counselor for mine and i’m pretty sure at least mostly reused the LOR she’s sending to the colleges i’m applying to in the us. i’ve heard that if you call ucas you can get a copy of your reference sent to you for like $10. is anyone else gonna do it? do you think i should or is it better to live in ignorance lmao
DD got an interview & assessment date from Cambridge/Fitzwilliam last week
heard back from st andrews today–unconditional offer
Hey, everyone! I just heard back that I got accepted!! I guess it really doesn’t depend on high test scores if you wrote a thoughtful essay
YAY! Congrats!!
Thank you! Your encouragement honestly made the wait a lot less stressful, so thank you for that (:
S24 got a similar offer from Manchester today (3 APs at a five, A in one AP class, and a 3.3 GPA). He is glad to have a UK option to consider.
interview invite from cambridge today
Question for Oxford parents. DS applied to Keble for CS. Based on Reddit traffic in r/6thForm, it seems some applicants received results today. Can anyone tell me if all decisions on a course are released at once by a college? And whether notices will come through UCAS or from the college directly? DS has not heard anything yet. I’m confused by this system. Thanks in advance for any help!
Interview invites for a specific course should all come at the same time (from the college offering the interview), since they do all the first interviews for each course over 2-3 days. But additional interviews may be offered later. Rejections without interview could be on a different timeline, perhaps not until all interview offers have been made. Again all from the college you are assigned to, and one way or another you’ll know that by mid December. Final decisions (offers or rejections) for those who are interviewed all come on a specific date in January.
i’m not sure if they’re all released at once, but they come through email. make sure to check your spam/junk folders. my cambridge one came on friday i believe and i’ve still not seen anything change in ucas, so the email is the important part
Thank you! I will let DS know.
Thanks very much for the reply. That doesn’t sound promising, but I guess DS just has to wait. I have had misgivings that he didn’t report his records correctly on UCAS - he only entered SAT and AP courses for which he already has scores - no grades or prospective APs. Applicants on the Reddit thread reported both a rejection and a shortlist today.
Has he received any communications from any Oxford college? There should be some form of acknowledgement to let you know the college you’ve been assigned to for evaluation of your application (which may not be Keble if they are oversubscribed). My recollection from when my S18 applied is that the initial acknowledgement was much earlier either in November or perhaps even late October before taking the TSA/MAT. That might have ended up in spam if he was just looking for an email from Keble.
Yes, his application was acknowledged by Keble in late October. He’s an AMC/AIME kid, and he found the MAT easier than the AMC, so we thought he might have a chance at being shortlisted, but…
Oh, actually, I misread that Reddit post - it was for Maths and CS. DS applied for just CS. I don’t know if that makes a difference since it’s a different course. Will hope for the best. Thanks again!
The interview timetable in the link is the same. But yes, the notification emails may be batched separately. I’d guess they will be sent out in the next day or two, they like to give two weeks notice.
I’m anxious to get a firm answer sooner rather than later, because the interview period is unfortunately right in the middle of DS’s finals week. I imagine this must be a common problem, though.
Did anyone apply to Edinburgh? Curious when S24 might hear something…
DS has been shortlisted. He received the email this morning. Now he has to figure out how to prepare for the interview, but that’s a happy problem to have. Thanks so much @Twoin18 and @halyardic for your support. @halyardic, good luck on your own interview!
