Oh, okay. Ironically, the writing section was my best section. I did send in my SAT scores as well as one SAT Subject Test score (I was required to take two SAT Subject Tests for some of the schools I applied to last year, but I was only happy with one of my scores). I just had a terrible high school GPA so I’m hoping that everything else makes up for that.

This is actually my second round in the transfer admissions process (not to Amherst, though)–with a very complex academic and personal history. What I most desire is an intellectual community; not just a community which participates in extemporaneous academic talk–but real investment in the gravitas of our little situation–but of course, along with that, I want the rigorous expectations of work to qualify said gravitas.

The narrative I presented in my application is, I believe, two-fold: first, exasperation at my inability to find said community, and second, a strong desire to spend all my life and energy in pursuit of working towards the purpose I’ve set for myself. I put my chances at severely low–where my chances lie are in Amherst’s implicit commitment to character, my narrative, and the ability of my narrative to convince a few of the committee members to take me on as a cause.

When I took the SATs in January, the math section was a struggle for me.
I have not stepped into a math class in six years :/

And you still got an OUTSTANDING score :).

I would say good for an uneducated, barely got a diploma, high school student. Not so much when compared to typical Amherst scores.

It’s not as though they are really important for a transfer student. Columbia it is absolutely necessary, but for Amherst… I don’t know. I wonder if anyone was accepted without their SAT results last year.

With these schools it may be hard to tell. I just saw a Columbia student that got accepted early decision with an 1870.

Maybe the student’s parent was an alum or maybe had an amazing transcript, but just had sucky SAT scores?

I don’t know, haha.

A few AP courses, but all were scored as threes. I must conclude that luck holds significant weight.

I submitted my SAT scores even though they are pretty dated. Apparently they are on par with the mean of matriculated students anyway. I did take them before they added the writing section though. I doubt they put much weight on them if you’re a transfer. Most schools I spoke to said it’s mostly college GPA, essays, and recommendation letters, but I didn’t call Amherst.

@jyoungs-- What do you want to study?

Philosophy and mathematics–and you?

jyoungs, Nice combo. Do you enjoy theoretical physics as well? I want to study neuroscience.

So what do you think the likelihood of us hearing tomorrow is? I’m not sure if believing the “March 30th” thing means April 30th or if it really is just a mistake from the regular first-year applications and that we’ll have to wait longer.

I strongly believe that we will know by the end of this week. @dcsmiss called and they said if he doesn’t hear by may 7th give them a call. May 7th is a Monday, and they don’t give decisions on the weekend, so I think it’s safe to assume by Friday the latest?

At this point, I doubt they are done vetting, and that no date has been set by the Amherst admissions office.
I believe that the admissions officers comments to me were just a prediction of when they would better know whether or not I’ve been admitted. As such, it isn’t necessarily an indicator of notifications going out before the seventh, but rather that they would have some idea at that point.
Also, I’m dictating to Siri, so don’t blame me if stuff is written incorrectly or doesn’t make any sense :)

@thelxinoe

In the layman’s sense, yes–though, in time, I’d like to appreciate it in a more nuanced sense.

Ah, guys, you’re making me even more nervous with all your posting on here! ^.^ All the other schools I’m applying to have around maybe 3-4 page threads of the transfer students…

Also, as regards when we’ll hear: I remember reading somewhere that we’d hear back the first week of May. So I think it’s entirely possible that we’ll hear by the 4th, though I’m also doubtful that we’ll find out tomorrow.

Good luck guys! Cross your fingers!

Thanks @JamesonFremont. I’m actually crossing my fingers, toes, hair, eyes, arms, EVERYTHING! :). I, too, do not think we will hear by tomorrow, and to be honest, I’d prefer to hear on Friday. I have a Biology test on Thursday, and if the news isn’t in my favor, I may just fail :P.

Here’s to us getting in everyone! Let the odds be in our favor!

Haha my UT and NYU threads have over like 40 pages!

When I called like a while ago to ask about why some have March 30th showing up, the lady just brought up (without me asking) that if we needed to know about our admissions decision, we could call and ask within in the first week of May. So…I think we should know rather soon guys

So hopefully by this time next week, we will all be very depressed… ;)
