Amherst College 2012 Fall Transfer

I too read on the AC Data, saying, “The designated date to view your letter has not yet arrived. We expect your letter to be ready on March 30 2012. Please check back at that time.”

Hello fellow potential Amherst transfers!

I’m Alyssa. Freshman at Endicott College in Massachusetts. I don’t feel comfortable posting my stats right now but they are a bit below the stats I’ve seen posted here.
Amherst is a huuuge reach for me so I’m keeping my fingers crossed. I also applied to five other schools for transfer (three of which are also major reaches):

 • Brown (reach)
 • NYU (reach)
 • Wesleyan (reach)
 • Emerson (not as much of a reach)
 • Brandeis (not as much of a reach)

I haven’t heard back from anywhere yet and I’m dying to know. I absolutely love Amherst so dfjsgdnsxhjgv.

“Amherst College gives preferential treatment to kids who are first in their family to go to College or are poor.”

Do you think this applies to transfers as well?

@ronlo91: I am sure that first in family applies to transfers as well.

@AlyssaKara:
Word of warning: You may already know this, but Wesleyan University is not need-blind for transfer applicants. Additionally, NYU has legendarily poor financial aid and graduates students with the most debt out of the national universities.

@dcsmiss That’s the reason why I didn’t apply to NYU. I hear they give little to no aid. Furthermore, I don’t think NYU is a great undergrad school, but a brand…

That’s cool that they give us poor/first gen students an opportunity :).

@dcsmiss: Yeah, I know. My family and I discussed how it would be best to not list that we need financial aid. I am not receiving any aid for the school I’m at now and, while we do technically have a high enough income to not need aid, our income isn’t high enough for my family to live a sustainable life while paying full tuition. With that being said, though, we discussed how my chances of getting into the schools I applied to for transfer would be greater if we continued to list that we did not need aid than they would be if we listed that we did. Especially since we’re very unlikely to get it, anyway.

I am a bit afraid about the financial debt I/my family will be in because of this, though. I just feel like once I know what my options are, I can asses whether or not they’re actually financially affordable and worthwhile.

I have my fingers crossed for you, Amherst is quite generous with financial aid and I bet you could get it started after acceptance. Amherst is need-blind anyway.

You guys I called. She said that was a typo and that it SHOULD say April 30th! So congratulations you guys! I guess I’ll try back my junior year as well!

Are you implying that it saying March 30 indicates acceptance?

@WorriedAlways: Did you ask what it meant that yours didn’t say that? I know we were discussing this last night.

implying

Of course she didn’t outright say that but…it seemed implied. Like…call and ask for yourself. But yes, I think so.

@Alyssa
Yeah I asked why and she was like oh well you should still know maybe a couple of weeks later in May. Rejectionnnnnnnn

@WorriedAlways: Hmm. Did you ask WHY you won’t be finding out on April 30th like other people are? I think it’s just really stupid that they’re having two different dates. And maybe it doesn’t equal rejection. Maybe they’re still making a decision or are putting people on a wait list? And I don’t even feel confident enough to say that the April 30th thing automatically means acceptance, either. So I don’t know.

Yeah but does your say that Alyssa? Like why wouldn’t mine say that? Like to me it really seemed as if it meant acceptance. Idk. Other people call too 0.0

April 30th we will know our fate… I am so excited and scared. I’m happy to get this over with sooner rather than later.

Getting an ulcer

Okay, I called. The woman said that the March 30th was a mistake because that’s when the regular pool heard back. She said decisions should be released in “early May.” So I’m not sure if that translates to April 30th or if it’ll be after then. Maybe other people should call, too, to find out? I don’t know the name of the woman I spoke with so if you get the same woman, you’ll get the same response (obviously). But I’d be interested to hear from other people about the exact date we should hear back.

I also asked why some peoples statuses have changed to this March 30th message while other peoples haven’t. The woman responded saying that maybe the system did not have all of their information put in or just had a glitch and didn’t post it in their account. She said that they have not made decisions on transfer students yet so it does not indicate whether or not a person is admitted or denied.

These people are just playing with my life :(.

@ronlo91: Right? My anxiety is off the charts because of this. Blah.

Lol Ronlo I hatechu.

But like when I asked her Alyssa she was like ehhh wellll yeahhhh. Like idk. Jumping to conclusions!?! I’m in Spanish Literature right now about to cry. I never even sent in my Mid-Term report. But I’m going to today…like everyone else did she said so like eh…It’s almost the end of the year…whatever…yolo
