Amherst College RD 2023

@OHMomof2 When does he graduate? Please tell me he graduates this year or I am in trouble.

@lucky18 We loved the Asian Food at Oriental Flavor which is right across the street from Amherst. Also for Mexican food we really enjoyed El Comalito in Amherst, a 10 minute drive from campus that is well worth it. We saw tables of other Amherst kids and parents, too.

@lndot93 I specifically recall the President of Amherst last year saying that it was going to be tough as they really do only have 470 beds and they had to scramble for beds in order to make doubles into triples. I hunted around the website and that same number comes up for different incoming classes. I also seem to remember reading that they increased their enrollment numbers in the last several years to that size. I can’t imagine it being smaller. I mean they only over enrolled last year by less than a couple of dozen and with attrition it sort of corrects itself somewhat.

Antonio’s. Is it the best pizza I’ve ever had? No, I’m from NYC. Is it the most creative pizza? Probably, yes. Tortellini pizza, quesadilla pizza, it’s all delicious.

In Amherst it’s THE place, for the AC and UMass kids, the residents and everyone else.

I’ll second the rec for El Comalito. We loved the Salvadorean food best.

Amherst plans to pull from the waitlist this year. From the Amherst Student:

The low acceptance rate also comes as a result of an attempt by the college to better predict its yield rate. At this time last year, the college admitted 1,244 applicants into the class of 2022, with almost 500 students matriculating into the college. Because of this high yield rate, many of those students were forced to live in triples due to over-enrollment.

Matthew McGann, dean of admissions and financial aid, hopes that the lower number of acceptances will prevent a similar scenario this year. “My hope is that when we get to May 1, we’ll be under our target number, and we’ll use the waitlist,” he said.

@mammoth85 this is his first year as admissions head right?

@OHMomof2 Yes it is McGann’s first year at Amherst. It will be interesting to see if he pushes through changes to admission policies going forward. For ex, Amherst doesn’t take as nearly as large a % in the ED round as many of its peers.

Don’t know when McGann started. But, we got the feeling that Amherst didn’t push ED as their schools when we visited last fall.

Hi everyone, just wanted to say I don´t think I will be going to Amherst so hopefully my spot is given to one of you on the waiting list. Good luck and I hope everything works out for people!

Is anyone planning on attending the Admitted Students events this weekend?

@Meddy D19 and I are attending

@EganAg How exciting! My daughter will be hosting a couple of students this weekend and she is really looking forward to showing them Amherst. Have you visited before? It’s such a wonderful school and has been a perfect fit for my girl.

@EganAg I’m guessing form your avatar change that the weekend went well?

@OHMomof2 yes. She loved it and accepted last night even before we left Midd. Looking forward to the next steps and my S19 to make s decision as well between Mac and Earlham

Congratulations @EganAg ! And wow, your son has a tough choice - good luck! I know many happy Earlham grads.

Yay!!! Welcome to the Amherst family.

I spoke to my girl at Amherst about the students she hosted and she said she really had fun with them. She rallied all the kids on her floor to donate items like bedding and an air mattress to make their stay with her more comfortable. She even had snacks and candy for them, took them to the street fair and out for tea. I hope your daughter @EganAg had a great host. I think it makes all the difference.

Anyone receive an email asking to re-affirm their interest?

are you on the waitlist or accepted @go2023
