Amherst College RD 2023

@homerdog good luck with the rest! College admissions is crazy; back in the day my family only applied to state publics in CA got into good ones and went there for cheap we all went to top grad schools later. Pretty sure I couldn’t get into the publics or privates my kids got into in today’s environment.

for those counting RD rate was 9.5% ED was 36%. Amherst expecting about a one-third yield from the accepteds to have a class of ~485

@kafkawriter it’s crazy. Same for my son. No rhyme or reason it seems.

@nrsebayer It is wild…I really do wonder how they determine all of this. Oh well…

Rejected, but accepted to WIlliams, so I cannot complain.

@kafkawriter I have to defer that they’ve done it a million times and are trying to build a holistic strong class that will also choose to attend. We have 4 more to go all next Thursday. Will see what it all brings. Good to have choices and always humbled that some are not so fortunate

@kafkawriter did you apply to tufts?

What is the historical data/chances of getting in from the waitlist?

Accepted! Congratulations to everyone else who got accepted! To those who did not, I’m sure you will all find another fantastic school to attend! Good luck to everyone who is still waiting on other decisions!

@kevjolb hard to track. Depends on how many they waitlist and how they fill the class. Also where you fall on the waitlist. My sons friends was admitted last year off wl in mid June. Also depends on who decides to accept waitlist. UChicago overfilled last year and very few came off WL. This year they reportedly underfilled and only waitlisted 200. No idea where Amherst falls this year. My son did not go on the waitlist here so that’s 1 more spot but it’s hard to predict what the final outcome will be. Save yourself a spot somewhere else if you can and if this is a top choice hope for the best! . Good luck to you!

@kevjolb so my answer was basically no help sorry. I think waitlist is about the hardest thing to predict…history doesn’t often repeat if ever

Does Amhest traditionally waitlist a whole lot of applicants or is it more of a small selective group?

@nrsebayer No, I haven’t. I mainly applied to smaller and more liberal arts-focused schools. Why, if you don’t mind me asking?

@kafkawriter just curious. My son applied to tufts. Good luck to you!

Daughter accepted, very happy and surprised. Good luck to all regardless of your final choice.

According to 2018 Common Data Set, last year Amherst offered 1,482 applicants spots on their wait list and then took “0” students from the waitlist … https://www.amherst.edu/system/files/C%2520Admission_2.pdf

@nrsebayer Oh, okay! And thank you!!! I wish your son all the luck and success in the world!

Last year Amherst took none from the waitlist because they had a higher than expected yield. The previous year they took 60 from the waitlist.

D2 Waitlisted. Congrats to all who got in. D1 is about to graduate from Amherst - was hoping for D2 to continue the tradition.

Now waitlisted at Amherst, Bowdoin, WIlliams, and Pomona with a yes at Grinnell. Difficult time for our D (and me). We’re aware that a waitlist is basically as good as a no. Now waiting for 5 Ivies next week and a smattering of other top tier schools, but hopes have been brought down to earth (and maybe a few feet below).

Grateful for Grinnell. Good luck everyone with finding the right place.

i got in!! 1580 sat, valedictorian, 3 years research, i’m so so happy!

@rmsdad That’s tough. Wishing you good news next week.
