Amherst: Female Perspective?

These clips, excerpted from some old CC posts, raise some questions.

I’m wondering if any female Amherst alums or current students had any comment on the situation there, both social and otherwise, from the perspective of a female student.

“My d. didn’t like [irrelevant concerns snipped] and, perhaps, that women seem an afterthought…”

regarding the 5 college consortium :

"For the three top LACs alone, the W:M ratio is about 6.7 to 1. "

"…Outside of those big school sponsored parties (which happen a couple times a semester), everybody generally stays on campus to party, with a significant number of Smith and Mount Holyoke students taking the bus over every weekend. Long story short, if you are seeking a girl, the odds are definitely tipped in your favor."

I am surprised by the opinion that "women seem an afterthought." In my time at Amherst, I've noticed a lot of bias one way or another in the student body, but never any gender bias. I literally cannot think of one instance while I've been here where the administration or the student body has in any way slighted female students. And while it's completely true that the girls from Mount Holyoke and Smith come to Amherst parties in droves, that's never negatively affected my experience. If you are coming to college to find a husband, you might have a harder time at Amherst than at other schools. At the same time, it is not impossible, or even very difficult, to date or have male friends.
