Amherst for extra-curricular? Doesnt seem to be too much at all =\

<p>Well to be fair, doesn’t seem to be too much besides sports and music.
I’m huge on theatre + debate and I checked out the Amherst debating page. It doesnt work. Hm.</p>

<p>Then i checked out the department of theatre, and its co-joint with the department of DANCE (justified by saying we want to teach students a cohesion of both…or something like that. sort of taking away from either as separate fields of study)
I cant do 360 back flips but I like to act which means I dont think theres much choice for me unless I dunno I become a tap-dancer in a rendition of the King and I.
ANYHOW, so right now i’m a little disappointed. I know I should have checked out these things before but well…my bad. I LOVE the Amherst English + Economics department though so I guess thats alright…but. I’ve got accepted into Dartmouth, Middlebury, Wellesley + Amherst and I know Dartmouth atleast has a super strong debates society, and Midd has GREAT theatre. So right now, im pretty confused again. My aid packages are same for all four and fantastic so I’ve been v lucky that way, so now its a choice based on these smaller things…help?</p>

<p>i don't think you have to worry too much about the theatre department. When I went on a tour there, my guide was a theatre major and he LOVE it. He said in his first year he had all these opportunities and now as a junior he's directing plays and what not. The building for theatre was really nice too. </p>

<p>I don't know much about the department personally, but i think the website may be a bit deceptive.</p>

<p>I've heard fantastic things about Amherst theatre from students and faculty. It was one of the reasons it was my top choice; I love acting. And I can't dance or sing, so I needed some ACTING! But I got waitlisted, so ... go wherever you really want to, but don't knock out Amherst based on theatre.</p>

<p>guys, stop worrying. The theather & dance dept. is a good one, really. Just look at the classes for Fall 2006, which are gonna come out in about a week. As for debate, I've done it for the first semester, and I can attest that there is a working debate program.</p>
