Im just kind of curious

for all of you that applied/visited/attend Amherst I was just wondering what the number one “hook” was? If you can please try to be more specific than just ‘it fit right’ what about it ‘fit’? did you like one aspect above all? why do you (for those that attend) choose to stay at Amherst? if you could give one piece of advice to potential students what would it be? these are the kind of things im looking for and any input would be greatly appreciated.

thanks!

D is out of country during interterm, so I will answer for her. She was picked up at the airport by 2 adcoms and on the ride to Amherst, she asked why she was accepted. They told her that what they remembered about her was that she was very smart and intellectually curious. It didn't hurt that she took a second and 2 first places in statewide academic competition, sal and 1550 on old SAT. She was also a diversity student - although white, but poor, and good geographic location, where no one from her school had ever applied before. She loves it there for many reasons - good friends, the opportunities offered, the ability to take whatever courses she wants, and to create her own major. Her intellectual curiosity is sated. She respects her advisor and all her professors. It is a great fit for her. As to opportunities, she has been to NYC a few times with classes to see operas and plays, the Folger in DC (which Amherst owns) to view Shakesperian First and Second Folios, and has attended many lectures, concerts, plays, improvs, etc. She feels welcome and part of a greater family.
