Amherst Notification for Spring Transfers

Which stinks because the colleges that accepted want to hear back by the 21st.

Yeah, I am having the same issue. What I did was just pay the deposit.

Are you allowed to do that?

I don’t see why not. I had asked this question on CC a week ago or so, and this is the advice that veteran members had given. I asked my advisers at school too and they suggested the same.

Its rude. If you do it, you should stop complaining about notification. Call someone in admissions and be straightforward. I’m sure they would be happy to work with you.

It isn’t rude, considering I’ve tried what you’ve suggested with every single school on my list. This practice is commonplace and no one seems to have an objection to it.

The school I was looking at extended the deadline by a week and they said that this was really the most they could do. Honestly, it’s a safe route to pursue. You can’t rely on getting into a tier 1 school because transfer admissions is a rather obscure process, so you need to make sure you have options.

That is true. I’m going to call some schools. Thanks for the heads up btw.

Grr, the anticipation cannot be good for my health. :p

Best of luck to all of you! PM me if you get in :-)

Did you already find out if you got in? I called the admissions office this morning and they said we will be finding out “within the next week”. :P

Anyone else think that it’s getting to be a little ridiculous?

I applied, but on second thought, I probably shouldn’t have because right now I wouldn’t even enroll even if I get in. Not that I would get in anyway. The acceptance rate is ridiculously low, so good luck to everyone.

Thanks. Good Luck to you as well!

Yeah, I’m wicked surprised. I was like okay… they will probably know by the 16th. Here I am… still waiting.

Yes this is totally ridiculous! And honestly, I think it’s quite inconsiderate of the school. We applied more than 1 1/2 months ago. With their low acceptance rate, they know we are under pressure to commit to other schools, and yet they are certainly taking their time!

I completely agree…But, it’s Amherst, so they think they can get away with it haha. And honestly I don’t think THAT many people apply that it would take them this long…ughh

lol, everyone calm down. A month and 1/2 really isn’t that long to look through applications. And don’t forget you can always a. ask other colleges for extensions or b. call Amherst explaining that you need to reply to another college before X date, and, if they’ve decided, they’ll tell you over the phone whether you got in or not.

For those who get in, feel free to pm me with any Amherst questions. Good luck everyone.

OCCTransfer,

Wat up girl!?

I agree, the wait is excruciating. Maybe tomorrow? Maybe?

Hey Elvis (we met in October during Transfer Day activities–we’re both Michiganders).

Hey, Elvis! haha, I decided to comment when I saw your reply. To think it was just 7 months ago when we were obsessively checking this site… memories.

Anyway, 5 CCers transferred to Amherst last Fall, so this forum might be good luck. ;)

OCCTransfer-That’s an interesting point about the CCers who transferred. I think Amherst and CC alike attract resourceful and self-motivated people. When I was in the military, people who scoured elite unit info boards often seemed to be more successful during the selection for those units. Excellence attracts excellence and CC is one more manifestation of that phenomenon.

Good luck to everyone.
