I couldn't find an official thread for Amherst transfer, so I'm just doing it. :)
Does anyone apply for Amherst? Any comments, feelings, or spec?

me, but I don’t think I have a good shot anyway :(

I’ve applied. I have no idea how I feel about my application, so, just going to wait and see.

…wish it was May.

duynguyen89: me neither, in fact. but still, i just hope that i will get a big “C” in May. good luck with your application too!!!

linala27: yeah i eager to jump directly into May…!!

do you guy know when did they send out decision letters last year?

duynguyen89: i don’t know, but i got an email from Amherst that they will release decision letters in mid-May.

What sort of stats does the average Amherst transfer student get accepted with?

Do they need SAT/ACT scores? I never took them :/.

I have a 3.75 GPA from a comm. college in California.
Major: Psych
upward grade trend.
EC’s: 150 hours at an elderly assisted living center and tutoring kids.

Did terribly in hs. Does amherst look at high school grades for incoming junior transfers?

me too. although i got an email saying that they didn’t get one of my transcripts by march 1st, it came in march 9 (eek!). i think i’m rejected though, b/c i basically used the same essays from last year when i applied, and even then i got WLed.

Does anyone know the stats from last year, out of curiosity? (Last year had a much more lively Amherst thread.)

@emil: one guy was accepted last year without sending his SAT

I’ve just reading the whole Amherst transfer thread from last year. It seems like they will call you around May 10-15 if you are accepted. Otherwise your chance is pretty slim.

It also seems like they prefer social science or natural science people over business major. I am doing finance/econ at my college so I’m pretty much doomed.

Guys, chill out or we’re going to have to rename this the “Doom and Gloom Amherst Transfer Thread.” It’s out of our hands at this point, and we’ve done the best we could do. Onward and upward is what I say. What’s not to say that we won’t get in? Right now, anything is possible.

So…stay optimistic. It’s only a little painful at first ;)

My younger D applied to Amherst as a transfer. We are still waiting.

She did get her acceptance to Mt. Holyoke today, though, so we are happy :)

susgeek: wow contratz!!! i also applied to mtholyoke but didn’t get decision mail… probably i’m rejected??! can i ask when ur D submitted her application?

^^^ she just got her acceptance email from MH yesterday at 4 pm, so don’t give up hope yet hugs

She submitted her application about a month or so ago (I think).

It says on the Amherst website that we will receive decision letters on 6/2/10… it’s probably true that they tell you early if you’re accepted though, as suggested above.

https://www.amherst.edu/admission/apply/transfer/calendar_deadlines

June? Really? Ugh. That’s awful. Apparently my entire May is going to be spent on the beach, with a book, not letting myself think about anything.

I hate this waiting game. I just want to frozen myself and tell people to defrost me in May. Arggg

My May will be spent in class and taking finals… can’t wait.

I am applying to transfer as well.

University of Virginia
GPA: 3.87
SAT: 1420
Solid recs
Solid ecs

Hoping for the best.

Out of curiosity, has anyone heard anything from Amherst recently? Anything at all?
