Hi everybody, I’m visiting the Amherst campus in a few weeks and it is also my first college tour ever! What should I expect from Amherst specifically? Thanks!
Wonderful dorms, huge open campus that is hilly and spacious, and lots and LOTS of snow. Great campus all around.
Snow, Cold, grey days, Interesting people, much diversity, engaged faculty, great facilities, amazing dorms, gorgeous views, lots of campus jobs, great Museums, so so food, much respect, peerless alumni relations, lots of internships, more fellowships than most, school spirit, one amazing college experience & more…
When we toured last summer we got our own tour guide as my kid was the only one there interested in majoring in science, or something. That was nice. Info session was OK. Had a nice chat with the admissions rep for our area. Try to check out the five college area if you can, we had lunch in Northampton.
I’m the OP went on my tour a few weeks ago so I’ll just write a quick review of how it went:
The campus itself was a little underwhelming, probably because it was cold and actually started snowing at one point. I decided that a small school really isn’t for me. The tour guide was very friendly and welcoming. He focused a lot on studio art, theater, and geology, probably because he himself was into those things. I would have liked to see the science labs but that’s okay. Amherst is perfect for anyone who is artsy, independent, and appreciates spacious dorms!
You saw the dorms? We didn’t, but it was summer.
@ OHMomof2 yes, the tour guide showed us a friend’s dorm (I don’t think he was supposed to!) But the halls were messy with clothes on the ground and garbage, but I guess what can you expect from college students? haha
(sorry this is so late!)
