My son had chosen Carleton (before May 1), but was recently admitted to Amherst off the waitlist. So we’re seeking advise and comments to help decide between the schools. I posted in the College Search and Selection forum about it:

@csdad2 Both great schools. Congrats. I do think there is quite a difference in the vibe you will get at Carleton vs here at Amherst. I’d consider choosing the college that has the best department for what he wants to major in, and where he will feel the most comfortable. Even though Amherst is ranked higher than Carleton, fit is more important IMO. If he likes to work hard and appreciates a challenging atmosphere, then Amherst is a good way to go. If he would rather be at a college with a much more laid-back vibe, Carleton might be better. There are lots of factors, though, such as aid/interests/major etc etc.
EDIT: Just say your other post. Looks like you have a plethora of helpful responses there. I will add, though, that I believe our physics department is considered very good.
