Amherst vs Georgetown

Hi everyone, I got into Amherst College in MA and Georgetown University in Washington DC and am having a hard time choosing one.

I want to pursue English and maybe a Pre-Law type major like LJST at Amherst, though I’m sure Georgetown has a program similar to it. I also love that Georgetown has a strong Journalism minor because journalism is a field that I also want to consider after college.

I love that Amherst is very tight-knit and “college-y” because of its rural campus and friendly surrounding area. As someone who likes to ask a lot of questions and meet with teachers, I also love Amherst’s reputation for having accessible, caring teachers in a smaller classroom setting. The only things I’m ambivalent about is that 1) I don’t want to grow tired of a small town and 2) I’m not an athlete so I’m not sure where I would fit in socially at Amherst.

I don’t know much about Georgetown, so there isn’t much that I like or dislike about it yet. I’m just afraid that at a big university, I could get lost. So, if there is anything that you think I should know about Georgetown, please let me know.

Any input would be great! Thank you!!!

Amherst is part of a 5 college consortium (UMass, Amherst College, Smith College, Hampshire College, Mt. Holyoke College)… students can take classes at other school sin the consortium, greatly expanding academic options. The social scene is quite lively, with lots of socializing among students at the other schools in the consortium, and you certainly would not be bored.

One possible negative social factor for Amherst is the collegiate gender imbalance within the consortium. If you don’t think that would be a problem for you, then Amherst should suit most of your criteria. Good luck.

Thank you @harvardandberkeley‌ and @merc81; this was definitely helpful.
