Amigos de las Americas

Anyone else in or was in this program? I am going to Paraguay this summer, I can't wait!! Post past experiences or the country that you are going to this summer!

amigslink.org is the website if you want more information

I’m going summer 2011 (too young right now), but I’m REALLY excited already. =D I think it’s going to be an amazing experience, and I’ll finally be able to experience life as it is for the poorer areas of the world. I won’t lie, I’m nervous about the idea of being away from home for 6 weeks, but I’m sure it will be worth it.

Good luck in Paraguay!!!

I was in Nicaragua in 2010 and last summer in Paraguay. BEST experiences of my life. Sometimes I can’t believe that its over. Hoping to be a supervisor sometime in college. Made me want to learn more about sustainability&community development, and made me want to travel!

Hello,
I have been searching CC for info regarding Gap Year programs - most specifically any that another member has actually experienced - or perhaps know someone who did. My son received early admission to his top school and would like to take next year off. He would like to go to a Spanish speaking country and focus on service/volunteer work. Home stay is also preferable. Some of the posters on this thread appear to have had some favorable experiences with some organizations. Anything to share, endorse, forewarn against? I would appreciate hearing about specific organizations that have provided safe and rewarding, well run experiences. Thanks all.
