An Alternative to the MBA

I have 5 years of working experience in the technical side of the engineering industry, and now is thinking to make a change and cross over to the financial side of engineering, such as project finance/corporate finance and etc. I am planning to get a MBA to help me to make the career change, however, I find out that there is something call master in finance, an alternative to the MBA in the market. I would like to know how can those - so call “Alternative to the MBA” to help me make the change by comparing to traditional MBA?

When people have a career change, how do they answer the question, “What kind of salary you are expecting” during an interview?

MS in Finance is a real finance oriented curriculum. It may be a bit too specialized for what you want to do. Have you looked at a Masters in Engineering Management program? I did that and it was the perfect balance of engineering and MBA topics. Most of the courses are actually the core MBA classes, but have some engineering twist.

For the salary question - I’d recommend searching similar jobs at similar companies or monster, etc and using that as your salary base in a new career. You dont want to undervalue yourself, even in a new career so stay around the average.
