I have an interesting story, for a situation like Andison's. My friend applied to 1 reach school, 3 good match schools, and 1 safety. He was rejected from the 1 reach and 2 of the good matches, and waitlisted at 1 good match and 1 safety.

At that point, the principle called the 2 schools where he was waitlisted, and 1 other school that he decided to apply to. He also applied to several other schools, some similar in selectivity and some lower than those to which he initially applied. He ended up being accepted to all of the 2nd round schools, and 1 of the 2 schools where he was waitlisted. He ended up deciding one of the 2nd round schools, and is happy there. While it is very important to have a good safety, do not lose hope if you get rejected/waitlisted everywhere. There are many good schools with rolling admissions or late deadlines.

Penn State, U Pittsburg, Rutgers, and Purdue are some of the schools he applied to.
