An update from when I posted a chance me I posted 8ish months ago!

Phillips Exeter Academy: Accepted
Phillips Academy (Andover): Accepted
Groton: Accepted
St. Pauls School: Accepted

What I posted a while ago with an update to the interviews:

Hey, all!

I know March 10 is well away, but I couldn’t resist making a “chance me” thread. As many of you can tell from the title, I’ll be applying to I am applying For Exeter, Groton, Andover, and St.Paul.

Gender/Ethnicity/School/Financial Status:
Male, Asian, Public School, Full FA

Applying for:
Grade 9

SSAT:
89 percentile overall. 800 in math (99%), 710 in Verbal(75%), 692 in Reading(75%)

Interviews:

Exeter: Drove 5 hours and had an awesome interview. He was super chill and I imagined him like one of my friends. The interview was about 1.5 hours long

Andover: Also amazing. He did try to test me by giving me math problems and asking me trivia, but I know it was good-spirited. The interview was also about 1.5 hours long

Groton: I missed the interview deadline so I submitted a personal video that I worked really hard on and introduced stuff about myself I didn’t mention earlier. The video was about 2-3 minutes long

St. Paul: Terrible. The interviewer was late to the interview by 13 minutes. She looked stressed and sweaty, with an obnoxious dog (nothing against dogs) barking in the background. The interview was only 20 minutes long, and she asked me only 2-3 questions.

Essays: Genuine and no one else typed a single letter so I know that my own voice came through. I may have been too impersonal though.

Grades:
All 97 and above

Recommendations/School Report:
I do well in English and I don’t get in the teacher’s nerves. As for math, I do extremely well and often impress the teacher with perfect marks. I’m unsure about the principal recommendation because we don’t talk often.

Extracurriculars/Achievements:

  • Boy Scout (Rank Life)
  • Community Service Club President
  • Basketball for 6 years
-I have a 1st-degree black belt in Martial Arts
  • Member of Math Club and Debate Club
-Jack Kent Cooke Young Scholar (60 chosen out of 2300+)
    -Violin for 2 years
    -Hundreds of volunteer hours
    -Academic Pentathlon for 2 years

This should show that every acceptance is different!

Congrats! Where did you end up attending, and why?

I will be attending Phillips Exeter Academy because they had a welcoming environment, and their culture was awesome. I also recall that when I was writing my SSAT essay, the only thing on my mind was “The Exeter admission officer is going to reject me for this”. Knowing that Exeter was my mian goal, it was not a difficult pick. My next choice was Phillips Academy, then Groton, then St. Paul’s school.
